We're getting into grinding our own coffee in the house and got this on a lark to see how it does.First impression is this feels solid in hand. Everything is constructed of metal except for the handle knob which is wood or wood facsimile and it just feels great. The body is knurled for grip and the adjustment setting for the grind is easy to read and set to the desired level.Operation is easy though it does require a mild amount of "elbow grease" therefore this is probably not ideal for people with dexterity issues though YMMV it's probably just a smidge more pressure than a decent pepper grinder if that makes sense. So as much as I like this grinder there's two criticisms to be had. First the device is not meant to be "washed" and instead you are expected to brush it out (with the included brush) and then use air to blow out the loose bits, this works for me because we have one of those high powered electronic air dusters but if I didn't have that it might be problematic to clean it. The second and more concerning criticism is the base that collects the grinds is threaded into the grinder itself and has no mechanical keying making threading it very precarious and I have to spend an inordinate amount of time to ensure I do not cross thread (and ruin) it.Operating the device is easy and when you're using it the noise is nearly silent in fact I prefer using this over my electric grinder because my dog doesn't go bonkers when I'm using it.Bottom line: I'd totally give this a five star review if it wasn't for the design of how the base connects to the grinder beyond that it ticks every box for me. Pairs great with my aeropress in the morning for stealthy caffeine operations.

I got this for work when one of my colleagues took another job and brought their electric grinder with them. This is much quieter and grinds the beans so we can have fresh coffee each day. It comes packaged beautifully and I think it would make a lovely gift for a coffee afficionado!

I needed to get my caffeine fix at the office without having the terrible k-cups that are stocked in the office kitchen. So I got this grinder, brought a French press to the office, and now I can quietly grind fresh beans and get the perfect coarseness needed. I’ve used it at home to grind fine grounds for the espresso machine and it’s perfect. The French press needs coarser grind and this is once again perfect. Excellent value for the money if you need the perfect grinds on the run, in the camping tent, or out in the middle of the lake on your boat.

First things first - this grinder came with a heptagonal (7-sided) burr rather than the pentagonal (5-sided) burr as pictured. This is not a problem, but very much worth noting for people who would be concerned about the difference. It resembles the heptagonal burrs from the 1Zpresso line of grinders. If other units come with the pentagonal burrs as pictured, the experience may be different than mine. But for the grinder, as is… I enjoy using this grinder quite a bit. The coffee it produces is delicious. The grind consistency is nice. I don’t visually see much disparity and not a whole lot of fines.I do wish there was a guide for grind setting to brewing style. Instead, this must be figured out through use and experience. The adjustment on the top collar is great! Much better than the standard adjustment from the bottom of the burr. The collar will rotate around twice giving LOTS of room for adjustment, but I was able to brew everything from espresso to coarse drip on the first round of the scale, 0-12. The subdivisions between numbers are fine enough to allow dialing in espresso without having to twist the collar around multiple times. The worst part of the grinder is the fact that it’s very slow. I have other hand grinders that will grind in about 1/2 the time. However, I understand this is a feature of the heptagonal burrs. They’re slow, but this produces a more consistent grind, so it’s a trade off.The grinder is also a bit heavy compared to other hand grinders, however, I think this is due to the size, quality, and solid metal fabrication. It’s a sturdy grinder and I appreciate that. I wish there was a bit more grip, but the slower burrs and larger diameter make it easier to crank.Lastly, it is not advisable to disassemble this grinder for cleaning. The instructions say this, but so do I if you’re not familiar with how these hand grinders are assembled. The removal of the burr from the bottom is simple enough with an Allen wrench, but there are small, spring-loaded parts that can be troublesome to reassemble and line up properly. I wish the manufacturer gave instructions on how to do this, instead, they just say to not take it apart.Overall, this is a nice hand grinder that i have enjoyed using for drip coffee and espresso. It is very capable and seems to be high-quality, built to last. I certainly recommend this grinder for anyone looking to save some money over an electric grinder of the same quality.
