Review of: MAPED Jumbo Triangular Colored Pencils5 STARS ~ HIGHLY RECOMMEND.PRICES of my last three orders:12/16/24: $7.4910/12/24: $5.5905/11/24: $7.29I gift Maped brand colored pencils a lot, both these Jumbos and the standard barrel size 24-packs, because:- TRIANGULAR BARREL shape is comfortable for kids and adults alike, and less likely to roll away. I think they're cooler.- VIVID CORE PIGMENTS lay down nicely on the paper. It's not hard to obtain opaque dense color, like a nice bright yellow sun, or a purple house and blue sky (see photo). They blend/layer nicely, I understand, quite respectably for such an affordable children's product.- NICE THICK CORES can be used to draw for a long time between sharpenings. (Pencils in photos have only been sharpened a time or two)- HAVEN'T BROKEN A TIP, not yet at least, after several visits from the four neighbor kids, aged 3-7, despite the 3-year-old being rather hard on things. Seems somewhat remarkable.- ATTRACTIVE VIVIDLY PAINTED BARRELS are a pretty good match to the core colors, and the bright colorations draw the eye and invite use.SOME COMPARISONS:- EYE-CATCHING PAINTED BARRELS: The bright colorful attractiveness of the paint on these Mapeds, boosted by the extras: lake-blue (cyan), leaf green, and vivid magenta, was one differentiator that led me to pay more for this set of Mapeds, rather than keep and gift the $6 Sargent Art Jumbo Triangular Colored Pencils 10-pk that I had ordered (from a great seller!), even though the Sargent Art set uniquely included a white pencil. I shan't disparage them because I have not tried them, and I give them five stars for providing jumbo triangulars for $6! They'd be great for an adult who might want a slightly harder core for certain sketching purposes, to augment their softer-cored base set ... according to what I've read.VALUE PRICED SHORTIES: When I gift to toddlers, I often choose the very short 3.5" long TinyGeeks sets (on sale), which blend/layer nicely like the Mapeds, but in a smaller package that is less expensive, esp on sale.TOO SHORT? To me, personally, 3.5" seems skimpy. I'd rather have another inch of longevity, for my money, but that didn't stop the 3-year-old from immediately enjoying them. Used as a stepping stone to full length jumbos, the TinyGeeks are excellent and affordable.MAPEDS ON PAR WITH BEST IN CLASS (in my humble opinion):The Prang Large Triangular Colored Pencils 12-pk runs about $3 more than these Mapeds. I'd be more likely to pay that premium to a great American company, were I not purchasing "in bulk", as it were, for gifting. The Prangs are equally attractive looking and include the luscious looking Silver and Gold, by trading away Maped's 'Blush' and 'Gulf Green' (a new leaf green, which I'm always sad to lose).PRANG IS AMERICAN HISTORY, founded by the innovative and charitable Louis Prang in 1888. PRANG is now owned by the Dixon-Ticonderoga Company, another American icon. (I recommend googling Louis Prang; he made quite an impact.) In any case, Prang colored pencils of all types, with their thicker, soft and yet break-resistant cores, are known to be excellent, for kids of all ages. Unfortunately, I've never seen the Prang Large Triangulars go on sale or be offered at USED prices. [Insert pet peeve about deliveries of warehouse-damaged pencil boxes being shipped as NEW, never offered as USED. And hit-or-miss damage *during* shipping without any protection beyond a bubble envelope.]VALUE PRICED & TOP NOTCH: In summary, these Maped Jumbos are a value priced top notch set. They're my go-to colored pencils for children, or for arthritic hands.SHARPEN CLEANLY: Using the blue sharpener in the photo (Maped Tonic 2 Hole), I conservatively (just about one full rotation) sharpened a couple worn down pencils to make them usable, without losing too much length. That sharpener works well and smoothly with these.

like the colors - like purple but there are a couple of colors in the pack not so popular and I prefer softer leads for my preschoolers but the pack will do

I bought these pencils for my 3 yr old twins granddaughters. They love them! The pencils points hold up to their aggressive coloring. I will definitely buy them again.

My 3 year old daughter loves these. They are not as wide as the Melissa and Doug Jumbo color pencils nor does their lead seem as hard but they are great none-the-less. I will buy these again when the time comes. They sharpen beautifully with either the Maped double-hole sharpener or even better with the Baumgarten's double-hole sharpener found here on amazon.
