The pictures show an opening to place a battery operated tea light. The description said AA batteries. I was really hoping there was an opening so I could place my own tealight that has a timer so I don't need to turn them on. However the base is closed, with AA batteries and in/off switch. I would have preferred a timer or my own option for tealights. However, the houses are the perfect European roofline like I wanted. Ceramic - feel a bit rough like they could chip easily so need to be handle carefully. But the light looks great. Not sure if I can pry off the battery seal to put my own. Not sure if I'll keep yet.

Cute houses but the craftsmanship is lacking. Will put them out over the holidays up higher on a shelf so hopefully the flaws won’t be obvious.

The houses are very pretty with lots of windows and detail. When lit up, the cut-outs on the roof of each house shine stars on the ceiling above, Just one minor concern, the battery pack on the bottom of each house detached while I was trying to open it but I was able to reattach them using Gorilla Glue.

I would give this village zero stars if I could. Very poor quality. There were small cracks and chips. The unglazed finished was very rough. I returned. Purchased another unglazed white village, it’s so cute and meets my needs.
