I didn’t look carefully enough at the detailed photos of this product. I thought it had a nubbly, raised pattern on the outside of the bowl. However, the patterning is all in the paint and glaze. The bowl is mostly smooth with a green tint and gray speckles. It seems like a quality product, but I just don’t like the surface design very much. It would make a great gift with some matcha powder.

Pretty set for making matcha and nice enough for gifting. I love the color of the tea bowl and cha-sen in this kit. The whisk is good quality and works perfectly with the provided bowl. Even though there are a few sets on the market that provide more of the tools that make it more convenient to make great matcha, it is a good value for the price. It lacks a strainer and a bamboo spoon, however these items are often ones people already own in their kitchen. I took of one star because there are currently some complete sets with 5 items that are the same price or slightly lower by a few dollars. Overall I recommend this cute little set for gifting or if you are wanting to upgrade your matcha tea making experience from the basic tools.

This set is lovely and functional. I love the pretty sage green of the ceramics; they have a feeling of quality about them. Delicate yet sturdy. The little bamboo spoon is weirdly fun to use. I kind of want one for each of my powdered herbs and spices now. Dipping into a tall, narrow jar is easier than with a regular teaspoon.The whisk is fascinating. It opens up upon first use in hot tea and is much more effective than a standard steel whisk would be; it has so many small legs. It took mere moments before the tea started to look a bit frothy in the bowl. It rinses off easily and fits perfectly into the ceramic whisk holder.While making matcha without all these things is easy enough - just stir a spoonful of powder in a mug of water - this little kit makes it feel like a special, relaxing break from the day. And the whisk definitely elevates the beverage to new levels. The mouthfeel, the aroma, and the flavor are all enhanced. I didn’t think it would make much of a difference, but I was wrong. My tea is significantly better when prepared with this whisk.
