I have multiple spring compressors, clamp style x2 and the screw type that sits on the top of the valve spring. None I have really been impressed with and considered getting one of the compressed air type. But this spring compressor works so well I needed to look no further. I needed to check what shims my engine builder used as my valve spring height seemed wrong. This is for a Ford 351c with aluminum heads and has canted valve angles. The springs were dual with a damper with a closed 140#. I had to bend the fingers a bit straighter on this compressor as the tool was not depressing the retainer evenly which caused the locks to be difficult to remove. Almost straight was the answer for me. Swapped the screws and locknuts around on the lever so the handle can be opened past center so it locks in place. So easy to use, a couple of gentle knocks to release the locks and able to remove locks with a magnet. I had used a compressed air line and locked the flywheel with a bracket. Piston was set to tdc.Just as well I checked. The builder had set the spring height wrong and at full lift the spring would be beyond spec at full lift.Highly recommend, I will never use those other types of spring compressors again!!
