EXO Puncture Protection
An extremely cut-resistant and abrasion-resistant material added to the sidewalls of select mountain tires. This densely woven fabric is also lightweight and highly flexible, ensuring that the performance of the tire remains unaffected. Choose EXO Protection for exceptionally rocky, treacherous trails where the chance of sidewall cuts and abrasions is high.

Tubeless Ready
Tubeless tires provide the rider with many benefits: the ability to run lower air pressures, which improves traction; lower rolling resistance when compared to a tube-type tire; and less chance of flatting because there is no tube. Liquid sealants should only be used in the following types of tires: tubeless road, tubular, and tubeless ready.
Tubeless tires can also be used with tubes for riders who prefer inner tubes.

Double Down (DD)
DoubleDown (DD) is our casing solution for enduro racing and e-bike use. Two layers of our lightweight 120 TPI casing material are combined with a butyl sidewall insert to create a highly durable tire with more trail feedback than a Downhill casing tire. DoubleDown tires are marginally lighter than their Downhill counterparts, but it’s really the difference in “trail feel” that sets the two apart. Some riders may prefer the highly damped ride provided by a Downhill casing tire.

Wide Trail (WT)
Wide Trail (WT) construction optimizes the tire’s tread layout and profile on today’s modern, wider rims. Traditional tires are designed around older, narrower rims and can create an overly square tire profile, leading to less than optimal performance. WT tires are optimized for a 35mm inner rim width but are proven to work over a range from 30-35mm inner rim widths, depending on the rider’s preference.
Maxxis Wide Trail XC tires are optimized for use with 30mm internal width rims, but they will perform well on rims as narrow as 25mm. Maxxis does not recommend rims wider than 30mm or narrower than 25mm

Questions & Answers:
- What's the difference between a WT (Wide Trail) and non-WT tire?
- Wide Trail (WT) tires are optimized for 30-35mm internal width rims. You can use a WT tire on a smaller rim, but the tire profile will be different than designed which can negatively affect performance.
- Are all tires sold with Yellow Maxxis logos?
- Black Maxxis tires are all sold with yellow Maxxis logos, with the exception of the Rambler which is white/black. Tan & skinwall Maxxis tires will have black Maxxis logos. Oftentimes, Maxxis tires that came stock on your bike will have white Maxxis logos, but replacement tires follow a different color scheme.
- Can tubeless tires be used with tubes?
- Yes, you can install a tube in any of the tubeless ready Maxxis tires.
- What width of tire should I get based on the internal width of my rim?
- Ideally you'll use a tire width that matches these internal rim widths to ensure the profile of the tire is as designed to capture the most performance from the tire. You an go slightly out of these ranges, but for maximum performance stick within these suggestions.
- Cross Country (XC) Racing / 2.00"-2.20" Tire Width / 20-25mm Inner Rim Width
- Light Trail Riding / 2.20"-2.40" Tire Width / 25-30mm Inner Rim Width
- All Mountain & Enduro / 2.30"-2.50" Tire Width / 28-35mm Inner Rim Width
- All Mountain & Enduro / 2.60" Tire Width / 35-40mm Inner Rim Width
- Fat Tire / 3.80"-4.00" Tire Width / 70-80mm Inner Rim Width
- Ideally you'll use a tire width that matches these internal rim widths to ensure the profile of the tire is as designed to capture the most performance from the tire. You an go slightly out of these ranges, but for maximum performance stick within these suggestions.
- Can I use a tire that's wider than the ranges recommended based on my internal rim width?
- Yes, but the profile of the tire may be very round which will have a negative impact on cornering.
- What's the difference between EXO, EXO+, DoubleDown (DD), and Downhill (DH) tire casings?
- EXO is a technology added to the sidewalls of the tires that is resistant to cut and abrasions. It's suitable for a wide range of uses including gravel, XC, and light trail riding.
- EXO+ builds on EXO technology by adding a butyl insert around the tire bead. It's ideal for trail riding in moderately demanding terrain.
- DoubleDown (DD) is Maxxis' response to enduro racing needs. It incorporates two 120 TPI casing layers with a butyl insert, offering enduro racers the strength and safeguarding of downhill tires while maintaining a more flexible design.
- Downhill (DH) is Maxxis' casing that features dual 60 TPI casing layers and a substantial butyl insert, making it the sturdiest option. Opt for the DH casing when your ride demands maximum durability and support.
- What's the difference between Dual Compound tires, and Triple Compound (3C) Maxxis tires?
- Dual Compound has two distinct rubber compounds used within the tire tread that balance rolling resistance and grip.
- 3C MaxxTerra tires use a firm base rubber to reduce rolling resistance and progressively softer rubber on outer layers to optimize traction. 3C MaxxTerra is an intermediate triple compound suitable for all-around trail riding.
- 3C MaxxGrip tires use a firm base rubber to reduce rolling resistance and progressively softer rubber on outer layers to optimize traction. 3C MaxxGrip is a high-traction, slow-rebounding compound intended for enduro and DH.
- 3C MaxxSpeed tires use a firm base rubber to reduce rolling resistance and progressively softer rubber on outer layers to optimize traction. 3C MaxxSpeed is a fast-rolling formulation of Maxxis' triple compound, best for XC racing applications.
- Can these tires be used for electric mountain bikes (eMTB's)?
- Yes, you'll want to order a tire that has either DoubleDown (DD) or Downhill (DH) casings for use with eMTB's.
- Does the diameter/height of the tire change with a wider tire width?
- Yes, the overall diameter (total height) of the tire increases as the tire width increases by about 2x the width change. For example, a 2.60" wide tire will be approximately 0.40" taller than a 2.40" wide tire.
