Bought this for use to replace my 30 year old Klein scratch awl after too many resharpenings on the grinder. Compared to the Klein, the handle is not the cushion grip, but it fits my hand well. The shaft is also not chrome plated, but it is no less thick. And hard enough to mark aluminum and mild steel. I have other Mayhew tools, i.e. punches, chisels and pry bars, and I believe all of them are made in Iowa, but I did not check the package for this before I threw it away. If it's Chinese, it is quality Chinese. I'd buy it again. I could have bought two for the price of a new Klein.

This is a quality Awl. I purchased my first one at my local Home Depot. I ordered this one as a replacement for my original one, which I used to dig around in a live electrical box. That ended just as you would expect it to. If you don’t lose/misplace this awl or do something remarkably stupid, like myself, this should last you a lifetime. I definitely recommend this tools, just don’t attempt electrical work with it.

I did manage to bend one of these by misusing it, so I don't recommend trying to pry with one to, say, turn the screw on a chain shackle.However, this is a nice tool and it's got a thicker shaft than the ones I've seen from Craftsman. The first one I bought came from Home Depot, but I don't know if every location sells them or if they even carry this brand anymore.Also, it's a great value for the price.

I wish it had a solid through the handle steel. It stops in the center of the handle. Don't hit it with a hammer to start a screw hole or use as a punch for too long..

Have not used item as of yet... US made and looks to be well made and I am sure will do the job. It's an awl...
