Stopping mosquitos with these is an art, if the net sits in the water they can still lay eggs in it. My solution has been to put a ball on top of the water to hold the net up.

We harvest water off our barn for the garden. It’s amazing how many bugs come off the barn and the mesh catches keeps the water clean.

This mesh cover doesn’t stay on my rain barrel. Can’t be adjusted for a snug fit. I’ll keep it and try to make it work.

Tried to tighten the drawstring and it was stiff and hard to draw up. The net didn't seem very snug just draped over the barrel as shown in the photo and we had no weights to hang on it to keep it from blowing off. We tucked it around the lid and put a brick on top to hold it in place. Not the best design. Might have to work on it some more to see if we can get it to fit better but initially it was a pain to put on.

Originally I thought it had an elastic band around it but its just a drawstring. Luckily the barrels I have are ribbed near the top so the drawstring has a place to grab on to. I have a feeling this could get blown off by the wind if you don't have it secured. This works well for insects and keeping the leaves out but animals or something heavy will cause this to slip off.
