This is a great product. There's someone on here that gave it two stars because they said they dropped it and it broke, only kind of broke though. It's like they taught us when we were kids, don't drop things you care about. So as long as your not dropping your tools everywhere, this is a great product for what it's intended for

I purchased the Milwaukee 2269-20 30:1 at Grainger. The temp gun was exactly what I wanted. three weeks in, I dropped it from about 2 feet. The battery cover latch broke, now I have a taped up latch on a device that is covered in rubber to protect it. The latch is cheaply made and I would not recommend it to anyone.

I only own a few tools from Milwaukee, from a rotary hammer to screwdriver bits, to now this infrared thermometer. One thing I can say is that the few Milwaukee tools I've owned have all been of top-notch professional quality, regardless of where they are made. Tool quality depends on how willing the company is to pay for good quality and exercise quality control. One can't make a blanket statement that all Chinese tools are cheaply made. Generally, I'd agree that Chinese tools that are made and sold by Chinese-owned firms (as opposed to those being sourced and sold by American firms) have a high likelihood of being of low quality, but when it is sourced by reputable tool brands such as Milwaukee, you can generally count on a quality tool regardless of the country of manufacture.I chose this more expensive 30:1 version because its smaller spot size compared to the typical 12:1 version will make temperature measurements more accurate. It's got all the functions I need, such as high/low alarms, min/max/ average/difference readings, emissivity adjustment, etc. It comes with a thermocouple for contact measurement. The only negative with this thermometer is that it only has one laser pointer right in the middle. I would rather they put in an additional laser to indicate the width of the measured area. As it is now, I can only estimate the width of the measured area based on the estimated distance and the 30:1 ratio. An additional laser would have raised the price by only a few dollars but would have been well worth it.Different materials' emissivity can be measured using masking tape or flat black paint as a reference. Milwaukee should have mentioned that procedure in the instructions.Overall, I like this thermometer. I bought mine online at Home Depot.
