For the most part I received my item... but when I opened the package, it looked like someone stepped on it and crushed the usb port. I spent 30 minutes trying to fix it, but I will test it to verify if it even works. If it doesn't, I'm sending it back to hopefully receive one that is operational.

I used it to install my wireless mouse dongle internally on my Thinkpad W510. I realized during maintenance that I had an extra Mini PCI-E slot that wasn't being used so I installed this adapter and it worked right away I didn't even have to install drivers. I'm so happy this exists.

My Thinkpad T420 (Ubuntu 22.04) has an mSATA slot on the bottom. This is where the factory WWAN chip is installed and can accommodate mSATA SSDs as well. I wasn't using it for anything and didn't like that my mouse needed a dongle, which annoyingly occupies a USB port because I don't like any of the Bluetooth mice that exist. While pondering this God-tier 1st world problem, I remembered reading that the T420's mSATA slot was basically just a glorified USB header so I had the crazy idea to install an adapter to go from mSATA to USB. I was absolutely freaking baffled that such a thing exists so I immediately ordered it, installed it, AND IT FREAKING WORKS!The main issue I've had can be attributed to the placement of the mSATA slot on my laptop. It's on the bottom and so the signal has to pass through the entire laptop. Basically, it just reduces the range of the mouse to about 2 feet, which I can definitely live with since my mouse is never more than 2 feet from my laptop.Another thing worth mentioning is that the USB slot adds maybe 1-2 millimeters of height beyond the mSATA spec. On my laptop, the little access panel that covers the mSATA slot bends outward ever so slightly because this chip is just barely bigger than what it was designed to accommodate. This isn't an issue for me. You can't even tell without looking closely and it doesn't interfere with my laptop's ability to lay flat since it has little rubber feet and, even if it didn't, I can only see it being a problem if you needed to clear something structural that had no give.TBH this probably isn't a 5 star product except for the fact that it exists and works. The audacity of the people who decided to create such a thing trumps any complaints that I can imagine. This is probably one of my favorite Amazon purchases of all time and it all happened because I'm a pedantic tech diva. Thank you to this seller and to whoever the heck makes these things lol.
