Ridiculous amount of time to put together. If it’s saying you were supposed to add more Styrofoam, so you have to take it apart completely add Styrofoam and put it back together and try again still sank. Didn’t work ended up returning it. I wouldn’t bother buying it. It was a big disappointment.

Easy to build but there are no english instructions. The pictures are OK though. Construction requires a razor knife to cut the foam. You have to cut the foam into several curved shapes to fit the curvature of the hull. Works fine on the surface out to about 8 or 10 feet. but it loses connection even at about a foot away as soon as the sub antenna goes under water. Sub will sink on its own. The only control you have for up and down is a vertical thruster under the bow. Left and right turning is poor. Forward and reverse are adequate but the sub doesn't track straight and turning thrusters don't help. I would not recommend this even at half the price.

If you are using this in your pool, the most important adjustment is to cut the poly styrofoam inside slightly larger than specified so that when all the air inside has vacated, the sub is slightly buoyant. Once the antenna goes under water, at least in a salt water pool, all communication is lost. If you get the buoyancy just right, it will glide for a moment under water than drift to surface. If not, you will have to dive down after it. That said, although I get the reason for side thruster steering, it is much more resilient to child abuse than an actual rudder, it is pretty much useless for actually steering the u-boat in the pool because it is too close to the center. Great toy once you get the buoyancy adjusted. One other note, the screws are not stainless, after only one run, when I disassembled to adjust the amount of foam, they had started to rust already. Not sure if this will help, but you may want to coat them with vasaleen or grease to inhibit that.

Piece of junk, had to be completely assembled out of a box and would not dive, and had to be pushed under, and then could not surface and had to be fished out.

I'm a remote control submarine hobbyist, so this was a very enjoyable experience to put together. Most models I convert to remote control operations take months of dedicated work and trial n' error to get a model working just right, so it was a nice change of pace to take a model kit and have a working submarine ready for the water in just two hours! It handles pretty well.PROS:-Simple assembly, should be achievable with adult supervision.-Simple operation, not much experience required to operate in the water. As long as you trim it right with foam and weight ballast, it's reliable and will be very enjoyable to operate. It has a simple forward/backwards propeller and motor, a stern thruster for left/right, and a water pump to "surface" the boat. It uses AA batteries, so no incurred risk with the batteries, unlike most batteries used in the RC hobby. The battery compartment also comes with a seal gasket that gets pressure applied by six threaded screws on the battery compartment cover. Make sure you torque those down good, or you might have battery compartment flooding!-If you are a modeler, it would be VERY easy to paint and edit the submarine to look more closely to a realistic class of naval submarine.CONS:-Color instructions are in a foreign language. English instructions are poorly translated with difficult-to-read pictures. You'll have to bounce back to the color instructions to see the pictures better.-If you have very little model work skills, or are super new to the remote control hobby, there might be some difficulty understanding the concepts. They are not explained very well in the instructions. I am not sure if an 8 yo child could build this (Says it's 8+, I'd probably argue 12+ without an adult helping).-My particular package had a different orientation of the right control stick on the transmitter. Instead of going left/right for operating the stern thruster left/right, it goes up/down, just like the throttle on the left control stick. Now this isn't a total wash, but I do have to hold the radio transmitter at an angle to help me remember which way up/down turns the boat left/right. So I suppose the caution note in this review is BE WARY that your model 'might' look slightly different than the picture...

This box says it's for 8 yr + BULL!! My 9 yr old was frustrated & gave up in 10 minutes & he is gifted. Way too many tiny screws kids can't deal with, wires that need connecting Not for children at all. Once put together we tested it out in the pool and found at a certain depth the signal fails and it sinks. We are significantly sad with this purchase. It looks cheap compared to the other 2 robots I bought for the pool Both of which work wonderfully, (One is a whale and one is a shark) Both of those together cost less than this one!! Sad!!!
