Worked perfect for my 1984 Mustang GT and appears better quality than OEM. Have used Moog in past and have never been disappointed

It's no secret among auto repair circles that parts quality has gone down the proverbial toilet the past 11 years or so, but Moog is still a safe bet in the sea of junk out there, even though most of their stuff is made overseas these days. I won't install anything less on my own vehicles, or my customers vehicles.Bought this K8259 lower ball joint for my trusty '86 Mercury Grand Marquis. The other 3 ball joints I bought at NAPA back in '05 - all have over 150k miles on them & are still going strong! One of those failed 5 years ago, due to my failing to clean off the grease fitting prior to greasing. Must've pumped some grit in there. Replaced that one with another NAPA one, since I'd had such great luck with the others. Well, after only 3 years, the boot split, and allowed water to get in, and stay inside (a prime example of recent quality). 2 years of that, and the joint became sloppy & worn. Bought this here Moog as a replacement. I expect it to last as long, or longer than the other 3 ball joints.

FOX THUNDERBIRD:I have a 1984 Fox TBird. These are the correct ball joints for the Fox-Birds. Fox-Bird ball joints are slightly taller than some of their Mustang cousins, which can cause some confusion. Do not use ball joints that are not the same height and width as the ones that were originally installed with your spindle/hub assembly or your may experience both figurative and literal pain.Unfortunately, Fox-Bird ball joints being taller than standard means that the ball joint press you rent from the local parts store will not help you. Unless you have access to a wider press, it is not worth your time, tears, and fingers to do this yourself. Also, if you are doing the ball joints, you probably ought to do the bushings, which are impossible without a press, torch, AND a fair amount of time. Your best bet is to either:1) Return the ball joints and bushings you've bought and get the pre-assembled control arm set from Late Model Restoration (this is what I did). For only a $100 more than the bushings and ball joints, you get new control arms for both sides (which might be worn/warped anyway) with new grease-able ball joints and new bushings pre-pressed. Two bolts to remove the old, two bolts to install the new, compress spring, attach strut, done. Worth the money for the time and hassle you save.2) Buy the ball joints and bushings yourself to save some money and give it to the local shop and let them deal with it.
