My gate latch catches or doesn't depending on season, rainfall, heat, cold, any factor that causes the wooden gate to droop or lift. The turnbuckle on this solution works perfectly to easily keep the latch parts in alignment. I like this design for its strength and solidity. The stamped mild steel plates that hook over the corners of the gate will be far more durable than screws or staples driven into the wood. That said, it's designed for new gates because two of the screws holding the plates to the opposing corners of the gate end up on the underside, impossible to install without taking the gate apart. Simple solution is to drill two holes on the face of the plate. Took me a only a few minutes.

The instructions printed in the package are worthless highly suggest a you tube video! Instructions say after you get everything on, to tighten the turbuckle... Well a little more info on how to do this would be nice. When I turn it, it loosens and when I turn it the other way, it was as tight as it would go when I put it on so there is no pull applied on the cable; just a door with a cable on the back. If I figure it out, I'll update my review, if I don't I'll return. Also... Make sure the top part of your gate is wide enough to accommodate the corner piece and the hinge. My gate has a 3" piece across the top where I had the hinge but the corner piece takes up most of that. I'm going to have to get a wider piece in order to fit both. I wish they made one with one side flat so the inside corner could be placed under the top piece.

These will work well on lighter gates but full privacy fence gates are to heavy for the lighter hardware that is supplied.
