One of the standout features of this filter is its ability to effectively "cool down" the yellow and orange wavelengths, reducing light pollution that often plagues night sky images. The result is breathtaking - the filter brings out the original colors of the night sky, making my images more vivid and detailed. The HD Neodymium Glass used in this filter is a game-changer. Meticulously selected, it captures fine details while minimizing unwanted reflections. This is particularly important when shooting stars and other celestial objects, as it helps me achieve sharp and clear images. The 30 Layer NANO Coating is another fantastic addition to this filter. It not only makes the filter resistant to water, oil, dust, scratches, and fingerprints but also ensures easy cleaning, extending its lifespan. This durability gives me confidence that my investment will last for many astrophotography sessions to come. The square design of the filter is perfect for my needs. With a slim 2mm thickness and a 100 x 100mm size, it covers a larger portion of my camera lens compared to circular filters, eliminating the risk of vignetting when stacking wide-angle and telephoto lenses. The compatibility with various square filter holders, including Lee, Cokin, K&F, and Nisi, makes it a versatile addition to my photography gear.

The built quality is good. It arrived well-packaged. Perfect for sky photos at night by reducing the light pollution. I have tested with a few photos and the difference was obvious as stars became clearly visible. Provides more clarity. However, pics are blueish after fitting the lens so the natural feeling disappears a bit.The price is slightly expensive in my opinion.Overall, I am happy to own it and will recommend.

To evaluate this filter's effectiveness, I took a series of test photos of the Milky Way in a heavily light-polluted urban sky of the San Francisco Bay Area.Basically, I took a series of photos of the exact same starry night sky, with varied exposure time (to account for the reduction in light passing through the filter), with and without this filter. I then evaluated the images and picked the best with and without the filter, in terms of the overall image contrast and brightness.Refer to the uploaded image for the comparison.**(** I don't know if you will be able to see anything in the tiny images on Amazon.com, so I will describe: These wide angle photos were taken at about midnight in July; the constellation Scorpius is in the lower right quadrant near the horizon. (The star Antares is visible just to the right of the isolated tree near the lower right corner.) The faint Milky Way "rises" from just to the left of that tree toward the upper left corner diagonally at 45 degree angle. The bright glow near the horizon is that of the large cities - Fremont and San Jose - in that direction. )RESULTS AND DISCUSSIONGoing in, I was skeptical that I would see any practical improvements from using this filter. (Over the years, I have seen more than a few astronomy filters that claimed far more than they delivered.)So I was pleasantly surprised to see that the NEEWER Light Pollution filter did seem to improve the contrast of the Milky Way against the background sky a little, though (as expected) at the cost of increased exposure time - roughly double. (4 seconds vs 10 seconds in the case of the uploaded comparison images.)(Your results may vary, depending on the types of light polluting the sky among other factors.)As far as the obvious difference in the overall colors that I think you will easily see in my uploaded images, I personally don't consider it an advantage or disadvantage. Because this is something that's easy to change using photo editing software today.CONCLUSIONThe results from this single test seem to suggest that the NEEWER Light Pollution Filter could indeed offer some benefit (specifically an increase in image contrast against the background sky) when used in a heavily light-polluted sky. In this case, the benefit may outweigh the cost of the need for increased exposure time (depending on your base exposure time, among other factors). But what if the sky is less heavily light-polluted? Without more tests I can't say for sure. But it stands to reason that the benefit would be correspondingly less, and the need for the increased exposure time may end up outweighing the benefit in that case.Where that threshold of cost-benefit balance lies - that's the important question that I cannot answer at this time. For now, my personal conclusion is that use of this filter may in fact offer some value, especially when/where the sky is heavily light-polluted. (On the other hand, though, that would not be when/where I will likely be doing astrophotography often...) Under a better, darker sky conditions with less light pollution, the need for increased exposure will outweigh the benefit at some point. So, on balance, I would like to rate it 4 stars, for use under heavily light-polluted night skies. (But not for use under very dark skies, where the required additional exposure time would outweigh any benefit.)

I have this filter on a Panasonic DC-S5MIIXCE with a K&F Concept 100mm square filter mount kit. The filter came nicely packaged: boxed, wrapped in greaseproof paper, and in a padded storage pouch. It's a perfect fit in my filter mount.I wasn't sure how effective this would when it came to affecting night sky images out where we live, as we're fairly rurally located and there's not a huge amount of electric lighting in the vicinity. However in fact this has a pretty big impact: deepening night sky colours, eliminating orange tones from electric lighting, and adding depth to the blues and purples of the sky. The removal of artificial lighting noise made stars visible to the camera that couldn't be seen (either by the camera or by eye) without the filter, and made the moon appear brighter and more distinct.I have pictured the same view in a couple of shots with and without the filter in place. This isn't cheap, but has a big impact on images, and seems well worth it if you take a lot of night time shots.

£108 at time of reviewI do a bit of astro photography, so have been interested in Natural Light filters, but their cost plus the fact that they increase the exposure by almost 1fƒ stop has always put me off, as 1ƒ stop for astro photography is a big deal, so the added benefit has always been outweighed by that for me. For night time street photography, or long exposures in and around the city then 1ƒ stop won’t make such an impact, but still worth considering.I already have a Neewer circular filter that I took out for some test shots along the Southbank in London, as you get loads of light pollution there! Having looked at the results of that, I was still a bit on the fence, yes there is a noticeable colour shift (I shot RAW using daylight WB), but nothing I couldn’t correct in Lightroom pretty quickly as I do already. When I pixel peeped I could see a little more detail in the highlights, although that could have also been down to a slight difference in exposure. So do some comparison shots, I took both filters up onto Richmond Hill yesterday evening. I have a Sony A7M3 and a A7C (which are pretty much identical cameras) so was able to do a direct side by side comparison. Having pixel peeped the RAW shots in Lightroom just now I couldn’t see any difference between them (as expected). As to differences between using the filter and not using it, as when I tested the filter on the Southbank, the differences where minimal, maybe I’m not using the filters correctly, so I’m still not sure that these filters are really worthwhile for me and my types of photography. All I can say is that the filter is high quality (was expecting that from Neewer), so if you’re in the market for one then I can safely say this one is good.Hope my review was helpful

Sometimes a circular filter is what you want while other times you may wish to stack multiple filters using your 100mm filter holder. Those are the times this 100mm x 100mm Natural Night light pollution filter comes in handy instead of having to combine circular and square filters together.Neewer makes great photographic accessories and this filter is no exception. Use it when you need to reduce the polluted green color that spoils a lot of nighttime cityscape views. Don't think you can simply correct that color cast in post production. It will never look the same (or as good) as if you filter the original scene with a light pollution filter before the light reaches your sensor.

As usual, another excellent product from NEEWER. Good quality coated glass, good finish, clean edges and it comes with a nice little microfiber lined case to store the filter.I have not found that it scratches easy. Also have not noticed any ghosting or aberrations. There is a color cast, but it's a light pollution filter that blocks certain wavelengths of light; by definition, it's gonna have a color cast to it. Cools the image down a bit.I live in about the worst place for astrophotography, so I mostly use this for landscape photography at night, or stacked with an ND filter during dusk or dawn. It's not a magic bullet, but it does cut down on certain wavelengths, and add a bit of contrast at the expense of a few stops of light. If you're into nighttime landscape photography, then I think it's an excellent addition to your 100x100 filter kit. Cant say "wont leave home without it" but if I am going out to photograph any landscape near the city, then this thing is coming with me.

The NEEWER 100 x 100mm Natural Night Square Filter actually works. I wasn't expecting this filter to do much, but it helps remove some of the light pollution so that you can take better photos. I haven't had much chance to take star photos this summer, but I got this filter out to see if it worked. It doesn't get rid of all of the light pollution, but it definitely helped me get some better photos. I like that the filter came with its own case and that it was wrapped up and protected when I received it. All in all, it's not a miracle worker but it really helps if you want star photos in a light polluted area.

This is not my first filter from Neewer and it will not be my last. This is a standard 100mm size, so yes, it does stake a special holder but there are a lot of others other that that will work in the same holder. My filter for looking at the sun is also a 100mm, so this will not be the only one you need the holder for if you are serious about astrophotography. This filter does what it says it does, albeit a longer exposure, but with no distortion, etc.

Very good quality Natural Night Square Filter from Neewer made from good materials and will last a long time if treated correctly.I was not sure if this would really work when I first saw it but thought I would give it a try and I am happy that I did.I wanted to do more night photography and recently got a telescope so at some point will also try astrophotography. You will be able to notice a difference straight away when you use or don’t use the filter which is great as that’s the whole point of getting filters, just taking photos at night I can see a difference in the sky getting a bit more details and a reduction in light pollution.I have also been using this for night street photography a bit everything gets a purple/blueish look to it so cools down the image which I do like on some of my photos I admit not all of them tho, before I was using Photoshop to give some of my images this look but now I can do it all in camera which is always a good thing.Comes with a nice case to protect the filter and a cleaning cloth which is a nice touch.Overall I am very happy with the natural night square filter and would recommend it if you are taking phots of the sky or you want to give your images that cool down look.

Nice quality filter for cutting down of light pollution for astro photography. Does require a holder and is a tad pricey, but it works! Quality of the optics is nice and clean too!
