I do a lot of telecommunications and network cabling and this little network/telephone cable tester is an incredible bargain for verifying proper cable conections and for tracing wires. It works extremely well, has lots of features and is so much less than some of the other testers that I have. I'm very impressed with this unit, especially for the low price point! Best thing about this kit is that the 9V battery works. It was all downhill from there. The design of the kit is nice, in the way that the remote couples to the tester. The test selection is odd to navigate, in that you select the test by using the only button the tester has as many times as it takes to cycle to the test you want to perform, and it starts to perform the test, without prompt. Then we come to the test results. They aren't clear at all. The test IS the result. It seems that the lights that correspond to the same number on the remote denote the wire, out of the 8+G, that it's testing, which is fine. It blinks, one at a time, on the tester, alternating with the remote. Think like pinging the remote, and if the both light up (which they don't do at the same time), then it's good? Once it's done, all the lights stay off, except for the test type, and power light. That would be an odd test, but arguably usable, with the exception of it did different things every time I tested the same cable.I would stay very far away from this tester.

This network cable tester is perfectly sized for easy storage, fitting seamlessly into my toolbox without taking up too much space. Despite its compact design. it quickly became an essential addition to my field kit. Whether troubleshooting or verifying connections, it has become a go-to tool for ensuring network performance with minimal hassle. A must have for any professional!

This is a good quality, easy-to-use Ethernet cable tester for light to moderate use. This unit is powered by one 9v battery (included, but not connected). The display is easy to read and interpret, and helps to speed up checking and troubleshooting your network cabling installations.

I got this tester to verify the cables I've made for our home network rack/area. I've been mostly counting on extra care and testing using the existing network infrastructure (e.g. hotplug between laptop and router then a speed test). This little device has definitely made the task easier! I've got a couple rj45 cables terminated and tested with this guy, and it's been pretty easy. The instructions, as others have mentioned, are kind of not great. They get across the point that you press-and-hold to power it on and off, and the flashes for wiremapping are a nifty touch to know HOW you goofed up in your termination efforts. The inclusion of a 9V battery (required for device operation) is nice, and it comes wrapped in plastic and NOT connected to the device, but is just inside the battery door. I also recommend unplugging it if you use the tester infrequently, but the terminals for the device are worryingly flimsy, so I have a feeling I'll need to replace the terminal area after a number of attach-detach sessions.

The ET515 network cable tester was successfully used for:1. Confirming, cable connections were present and correctly crimp to the connector. The cable tested should be disconnected and at least 20 cm long before connecting to the transmitter after it is placed into the QC mode.2. Confirming the cable connections and pin assignments connected from one end to the other using Wiremap mode. The test sequence is fast, so I need to review the pattern a few times to confirm the pin assignments.3. PoE port and polarity. The positive pins are illuminated on the receiver connected to the PoE switch or midspan. This works for 2-pair and 4-pair PoE.The ET515 Flash test did not work on 10/100/1000 Mb Ethernet switches. The ET518 tester should be capable of this. The instructions included are a challenge to understand. You need to hold the mode button >3 second to turn on the device, which illuminates the POWER led and one of the mode leds. Then pressing the mode button briefly moves the transmitter to a new mode for each press of the mode button. The device is powered off by holding the mode button >3 second, which turns all the leds off.In wiremap mode, the transmitter may be connected to an Ethernet cable with the other cable end connected to a switch. Confirming what the cable connections and pin assignments connected from one end to the other. However, the device will indicate that two wires are connected if they are shorted together whether they are connected to the switch or not.
