This was a replacement for an older fan that had lost some power. Was very easy to install, worked great and was definitely easier to just replace the fan than the whole exhaust unit.

Just received it this evening.I am using it to replace a very old NuTone 9905 unit. It was a gamble if it'd fit or not as it doesn't not mention this unit would. Overall, it fit pretty well. One side of the Sroll Band was too long. I bent where it needed to be bent 180 deg back on itself twards the outside (if you were trying to do the same bending it back towards the inside, it will obstruct the fan blade). The curve side is just a tad short but when you screw the fan assembly in. So I positioned the scroll band as I tighten the bolt (bolt, not screw... see below), it does work and it does holds in place.2 holes were too big for the #8 sheet metal screws provided... where the fan assembly meets the scroll band. I used #10 bolts and nuts. There's enough clearance to put your fingers to hold the nut while turning the bolt. The #10's fit prefectly.... (#8 screws for the other 3 holes had no issues)It is as quiet or maybe a little quieter than the original one. The suction seems a little less, but for a tiny bathroom, it's not an issue.Lets see if this fan will last 12+ years like last one. :-)

Several reviews state it was difficult to install or hard to understand the directions. The directions weren't perfect but I think people are trying to put the scroll band in upside down. The flat open holes sit flush against the inside of the vent housing with the little metal tab sticking into one of the holes that hold the cowl for the exhaust pipe on. The dimpled screw holes are designed to hold the screws for the motor housing. When the scroll is placed correctly, with a little flex to make it round there are two holes that should line up with preexisting holes in the housing. With a little vacuum and wipe down time it took about 15 minutes from removal of old to finished install of new.

I had a a very old Nutone 668RP. Back in 2018, I installed just the new motor and put it in the original plastic housing. After only 2 years of use, it sounded like either the motor bearing was going or the blower was off kilter. I purchased the brand new motor kit. Because I had the luxury of playing with the leftovers from the other Nutone Exhaust fan, I was able to more easily figure out how the metal scroll band installs and then the motor & housing. The design flaw is the tab that is horizontal. See Photos. If you don't bend that up in the vertical position, you can't slide it over enough so that your screw holes match up to the holes in the Metal Scroll Band. You also need to purchase a 1/4" nut driver and longer screws. This will aid you in actually getting the mounting screws in and tight. Cover up your bathtub and get ready to drop screws. This new fan is quieter than the one from 2 years ago. We'll see how long it lasts. For me, this was a difficult job because I did replace the plastic housing in order to retrofit it with the new kit. Certainly took me longer than other folks said. If I had not had to do that, I can imagine installing the kit in much less time plus knowing you have to bend that tab.
