This is a nice reel for the cost. Feels smooth and the line counter works well.

I used this for walleye and lake trout/salmon trolling with dipsies. I'm not sure how it would hold up against king salmom, but the above are great. I have 300 yards of 50lb braid, fits perfect. Very happy with the reel. Clicker and counter work great, smooth reeling and good drag. I might be trying the 30 size next just for a bit more line.

I think this Okuma Magda Pro Line Counter Levelwind Trolling Reel for the money is the best buy out there. I find the MA-15DX works best for me. I have their more expensive Coldwater which is a fantastic reel, and I have a Penn's Squall which is one of my favorite reels. But if I am trolling for trout or even kokanee, I load this up with 10- or 12-pound P-Line Floroclear with an Eagle Claw Featherlight Kokanee rod, and I am into it for around $100 bucks, you can't beat that! The photo-- the usual situation that I am not allowed to speak up about.

I purchased two of these reels, both arrived in same packaging and on time. Both reels look real good, they even handled real good. Reel #1, it appears to be very well made and it operates very well. The counter works, how well only time will tell.Reel #2, it appears to be well made, and operates well except for the counter. After resetting the counter, and turning of the handle the counter is not operating. You can see that it wants to move the numbers but the number do not move for counting.I would like to exchange the one reel that does not operate with a reel of the same brand and model with a new one where the counter operates.Thank youUpon further review of item, I was able to get the counter operational. I do not know what I did, but it works now in both the paying out and hauling in of line.Like I stated before, time will tell.Again Thank youi.

I been using this reel for about 15 years and had no problems with it. when I did give problems, Okuma stood by their product and repaired and replaced it. I'd been using it on a 7' pole casting 250ft consistently. I recent bought this reel again, this time I paired it with a 12ft pole, and I reached 495ft casting. That nearly doubles the distance on a 7 ft pole. This reel is by far worth the $50 you're going to spend. When it comes to fishing, I've used it in Big Rivers like the Mississippi in Port Allen Louisiana, then James River, The Chickahominy River and Northwest River in Virgina as well as the Gulf of Mexico in Louisiana, the Atlantic Ocean and Chesapeake Bay in Virginia and in the Pacific Ocean in California. This Reel has pulled in Catfish 60+ pounds, Grouper, 56in red drum, 60+ inch cobia, mahi mahi, red snapper you name it. I am a huge Penn fan and I tell you this Okuma will stand up to just about any application in and above its class, especially for the price. Pictures coming soon.

After years of using Shimano 600LCs, I figured I would try out something a little more affordable. I use these reels for trolling on Henry's Lake in Idaho, catching different types of trout. I bought one of these and the Okuma 303D. Heres what I foundPros- Great price! Half the price of the Okuma 303D and a quarter of the price of a Shimano 600LC.- Great drag! As sensitive as a Shimano and easier to use than the temperamental drag that the Okuma 303D had.Cons:- Temperamental line counter. The line counter would get slightly off on the number alignment in the viewing window. It would eventually right itself every time or would right itself when the reset was pressed, but I'm worried about the long term durability.- plastic parts. The Shimano and Okuma 303D are all stainless steel parts. This reel has a lot of plastic parts. That said, the plastic feels solid. The drag wheel would probably be my main concern, but only time will tell how it holds up.Caught many fish over the fourth of July week with this and it performed on par with my Shimano and Okuma 303D. I've had the counters go out on my Shimanos and they have broken down over the years. At this price point, I could buy 4 of these for the same price and probably get more years out of them, but only time will tell. Nevertheless, I was impressed at the performance at this price. The Okuma 303D and Shimano look nicer with the stainless steel, but come at a premium price. If money were no object, I would probably stick with the Shimano due to similar performance, stainless steel parts and proven track record. If I find this holds up well over the next few years, I will likely purchase these in the future instead.UPDATE: Five years now and I'm still using this. The drag wheel is looser than I like but I just check it a little more frequently. I'm still using this one, the Okuma 303D, and a KastKing ReKon. I've ditched the Shimano's altogether due to price. This reel still has a tempermental counter but I'm still catching lots of fish with this and the other two. It is one of the poles I regularly fish with. I'm about to get a new pole for it. For the price I paid for this, it has been one of the best values for my money.

Abbreviated version of below: Buy it you wont regret it, and personally it is the only trolling reel I will ever buy for future poles. You wont find a better reel for your money. Reels 3-4x the cost of this one are hardly any better and this reel leaves nothing to be desired.I have only used this reel on the water for about 16 hours (2 trips) but I am still giving it 5 stars. The reel seems to be of very good quality, it was a great price for what you are getting (I believe i paid about $40), the line counter is absolutely great and makes setting lines out to the same distance easy as can be (plus gives you the piece of mind knowing your all out to the exact same distance, no guesswork). For me this is very beneficial because I am using it for trolling plugs for steelhead in Washington and having everyones plugs out the same distance increases the odds of a hit significantly (creates what I have heard referred to on many informational sites and youtube tutorials as 'the wall of death'... odd name but whatever works). The only thing that had me debating if I should give this 5 stars or 4 was the fact that I haven't personally had much fish time with the reel, but I decided to go with 5 based on the fact that I do know someone who has the same reel series (same reel but a size smaller with less line capacity but otherwise identical) and he has had it on his steelhead rod for several years now and he really likes it, it has performed just as well as anything else he has used, and he fishes on A LOT more than I do (probably trolls 16 hours a month and used to do much more and had this reel on at that time as well). Bottom line it is a great reel for the money and I don't see how you could go wrong with it. Without hesitation I will be buying one for each and ALL of my trolling poles from now on, thats how much I like this reel.
