When I first purchased these, I was thrilled to have collars that were so easy to put on and remove from the bar. However, I've been using them for about 7 years now, and I have a few legitimate complaints.1. There are other products that do the same thing for 1/4th of the price. They're not charging over $40 a pair (at the time of this writing) because of superior quality, they are doing it because they can, and people are willing to pay it. At the time of purchase 7 years ago, there weren't many good alternatives. That is no longer the case.2. They break far too easily, and over time, will break due to wear and tear. I purchased 5 pairs of these originally. Early on, one of the collars was defective right out of the box. A few months later, I dropped one from eye level (I'm 5 foot 11), and it ceased to turn properly, after just that one drop. Over the years, a couple of them have stopped turning properly, because the plastic pieces that give give them stability as you turn them wore out.3. For over $40 a pair, I'd expect a lifetime warranty, considering these things are nothing but cheap plastic, and from a cost perspective, easily replaced. There's no excuse for this. If you choose to go with a different brand, you could buy 4 pairs, and essentially have yourself clamps that will last a lifetime, even if some of them breakdown. But this company seems to think that $40 is a fair price for a 1 year warranty.4. Poor design. The rotation of the of the plastic lever is the primary culprit for these units breaking down from wear and tear. The plastic pieces rub against each other and will inevitably fail from enough uses. If you look at some of the other designs from similar products, the levers go towards the bar, instead of rotating perpendicular. That is a much more sensible design that would put substantially less stress on the moving parts.Overall, they do what they're supposed to. But, try not to drop them, and don't expect them to last a lifetime, because they won't. Considering what else is on the market, this product is simply no longer a good value.

Competition collars are great for competition, but Olympic lifting training requires an easy-on, easy-off solution to accommodate quick and frequent weight changes. In that respect, these collars fit the bill better than anything else I've tried. Over the years, I've lifted at a few gyms that had these collars and have owned a couple of sets myself. Trust me, you'll likely misplace these collars or have them stolen long before they break. They often pop loose after dumping the bar, but that's not a big deal unless you're doing high-rep sets. If you must do high-rep sets, I recommend two sets of spring collars.

I was very pleased with these. They slide on and off easily and do what they need to. I've never tipped a fully loaded bar, so I can't say for sure they would stop the weight if the bar went completely upright, but they stop them from moving at a good tilt. You do need to be a little careful with them - they're heavy plastic, not metal. If dropped on a hard floor the joint might break since they're only really made to handle force around the bar.WAY better than spring clamps in my opinion. Especially at the end of the work out when your forearms are getting shot.

Most clamps feel like nails on chalkboard to me. You're squeezing these metal springs and sliding them on is really scraping them on. Totally rubs me the wrong way - the last thing I want when I've done a heavy set and am slightly exhausted. These are super easy to put on, and hold the plates great without moving. I've seen them being abused in my gym by powerlifters who drop weights and they still hold great. I checked. (I don't powerlift)Yes they're pricy, but for me they're definitely worth it.

I am rating these based on my experience as a crossfitter. These clamps are the first ones I've purchased. They are decent quality and construction. They work well for lifts that do NOT involve dropping the weights from the overhead position. They do NOT work well for lifts which require/encourage the overhead drop, as they have a tendency to pop open. So, they are good for: Back Squats, Front Squats, Squats, Cleans, Bench Press, Deadlift etc. They are not good for: Jerks, Overhead Squats etc.I will keep these for most lifts, as they go on and come off very easy, but will have to buy another, more rugged set for the overhead stuff.

Cap barbell muscle clamps are awesome and work great except thats not what you get. I recieved cheap spring clamps. I sent an email explaining what I got and recieved two more spring clamps. If you want what is pictured don't bother.

These muscle clamps are the best collars I've used. They're extremely sturdy and don't feel flimsy at all, and are much easier to use than springs on a rusty bar, for instance.Taking one star away due to the high price.
