Nicely finished and appears fine. Beware that you will have to buy a longer straddle cable if your using with Tektro brakes. The safety aspect of the unit offsets the extra cost in my thinking.

For cantilever brakes and especially bikes without fenders/mudguards this brake cable hanger has a great safety feature. As you would know, left and right cantilever brake arms are connected by a straddle cable which gets activated by being pulled on by a brake cable. Yet an emergency situation could require an extra hard pull on the brake cable which in turn could break the cable and without fenders/mudguards the straddle cable could then fall and get caught on the knobs of a knobby tread which could cause a rotating wheel to lock up and cause even more trouble. But were a brake cable to break the safety feature of this cable hanger is a protruding shelf between the wheel and the straddle cable to catch, support and prevent that cable from making contact with the tread of the tire/tyre. And for those with fenders/mudguards this feature could help avoid scratch and/or scuff damage to them.

This works exactly as described. I used it on my 90’s mtb conversion.

I've used an Origin8 cable hanger on the rear canti-lever brakes for a vintage MTB restoration project. Bought this front hanger in order to be rid of the steerer tube mount cable hanger. Worked out very well!As expected from Origin8, excellent quality of material. The hanger comes with an assortment of lock washers and half-round spacers in order for the user to be able to adapt to most forks, as well a provide enough clearance for some of those bottom headset cups that tend to 'stick out' a little further. Nice to have the 'catcher arm' in case any cable breaks. Well made, nice clean install...recommend!

As a daily bike commuter on a heavily loaded steel tourimg frame (Surly LHT with front panniers), I had been plagued for years with terrible front brake squeal. I traded out pads many times, adjusted pad toe angle in and out and even asymmetrically. I sanded, then file pads, cleaned rim surfaces with rubbing alcohol. I adjusted my Tektro cantilevers numerous times. And I switched to a new rim surface. My next stop was new cantilevers arms and, if that didn't work, a disc brake upgrade (requiring new fork, wheel, and brake components). Then last weekend I put this on. Problem solved. Completely. This will be a good solution for those with steel (ie relatively flexible forks, especially if the bike is heavily loaded). I've also read it may be helpful for any cross bikes that aren't already running front disc brakes.

This rear mounted brake hanger works awesome! Mounts in rear brake stay and takes away the sponginess from other style hangers while giving something solid to your cable housing to act against. Can't recommend this and the front brake hanger enough, worked awesome to take out any brake chatter from my cantilever brakes and allowed for a very low yoke and straddle wire position. Tried originally to use a surly brake hanger and found it had to much flex for the brakes to work as well as I'd like, this issue was completely solved with this part. Only criticism is that it doesn't have an integrated barrel adjuster so you have to put one in yourself, not difficult by any means but it would be nice if it had one stock

I don't understand the purpose of the horrizontal piece, and it was hindering my canti brakes, so i used a dremel and removed it. It works really well now. The bolt provided wasn't long enough or the correct threading so i had to get a new one. Other than that, my rear brake is now much smoother than it previously was with a seat collar hanger.
