Despite other reviews claiming jamming issues, we have now scanned hundreds of slides, mostly standard cardboard mount, others plastic, without a single jam so far. Quality is excellent. Easy to install software and to use. Would be 5-star if all the on-line elements were made more clear. Update: Giving 5-stars after several weeks of no problems.

This is the 2nd PowerSlideX Plus for us, and it's working quite well, after 23 carousels so far. Our first one jammed a few slides every magazine (of 50 slides), yet we hobbled along digitizing 11 carousels of slides. During this time, Wendy of Tech Support was quite good and used email only. We simply had a lemon and had to return it. The digitizer has a suite of software features to enhance the image. They each improve the scan, but their Magic Touch feature, designed to remove dust and scratches, can actually introduce distortions, so today, I've disabled it. But, when Magic Touch works, it works very well, so I've used it selectively. You have to spend some time to familiarize yourself with the software setup and operation, but once you know that, it's fine. You have to make sure that the slides are flat and not warped, else you may get jammed slides, so I spend extra attention when loading each cardboard slide. I had some cardboard slides that came unglued, and spent some time taping the film in the frame and carefully taped the frame closed; this was time well spent, resulting in successful scans. Plastic slides hold their shape and work well.Overall, I'm impressed with the device and happy with the purchase. We're scanning a total of about 7000 or more slides. The investment was worth it.

I started project of scanning and digitizing thousands of slides from the 1940's on, two combined families, So far we have about 5000 done. Received the scanner and immediately had problems with jams. PI promptly replaced it with a new one and all is good. I can load it with 50 slides and run it overnight at high resolution .TIF format with good results.

Instructions could have clearer, and more complete. It only worked using certain USB ports (I believe alt display use type).

The instructions for downloading the software for the Mac are bad. Some of the URLs 404. The software is not signed / notarized by a Mac developer so your computer will not run the driver and scanning software. After your mac refuses to run it you go to the security settings and give it an exception to gatekeeper, etc, as possibly malicious software so it will run. The app is 321.5 MB on your disk so it's obviously developed on the cross-platform development application QT. It's not native on Apple silicon, rather it's running in emulation as an intel app. They will have to update it pretty soon or it won't be supported. Unfortunately they have ported the ugly Windows GUI to the Mac version. I don't know how it will work yet but I'm disappointed in the site and software. You can get a driver and use Silverfast to run it if you don't like the software. But the worst thing about this is that it doesn't even work. I spent a number of hours trying to scan some slides yesterday and it wouldn't work because it jams constantly. Often it jams after only two or three slides. The most I ever got it to scan before jamming was seven. The reason you get a scanner with a slide holder is to scan a bunch of slides. You can't do it with this device. This is a very expensive paperweight - completely useless. DON'T BUY ONE.

I don't leave many reviews - perhaps because what I normally buy isn't that interesting, but I am going through and scanning a large collection (almost 500k) of slides and not having a PowerSlide would make it.. nearly impossible to get it all done in my lifetime. I have been using the previous models for four years now, and this one by far is the "best" upgrade one could wish for. It's very quiet (the other ones were not) and it's extremely fast per slide. Quality per slide on this version is slightly better to my eye; however, remember we are all scanning in 35mm slides that have been degraded over time, so there's a maximum you can really "push" your scans. Don't expect a 10,000dpi scan to turn out any better than a 2,500dpi one: exposed 35mm slides are ~ 1000-2000dpi depending on the film used. The benefit of a 10k-dpi scan is specifically for very fine masking or corrective purposes [or] to resurrect details post-processing that have been lost to time. Anyway, I could go on and on, but A+ to Scanace/Pacific as this machine is a GREAT upgrade to those who have used previous slide scanners.

Unfortunately this is the only batch scanner my workplace could find in their price range. Which is tragic because this is one of the worst pieces of technology I have ever had to work with. The software is some of the least intuitive I have ever seen, no manuals, the product requires and immediate firmware update upon installation if you want it to work at all, it frequently skips slides for no reason, about 50% of the time will randomly jump a slide forward when you attempt to scan the current frame, and jams constantly. We have two of these scanners and both have been an absolute nightmare to work with. While having a batch scanner at all helps with large slide orders, I can guarantee you this is one of the worst options out there.
