I know to get a good tool you have to pay for it, but still you would imagine that this tool could do the obvious, so I got it to have a spare one. It actually doesn’t! It offsets from the center where ever you set the four screws at, or the insert piece, directing you out of the center of the shaft. Definitely not a tool for a professional. Don’t waste your money. Plus the screws came in brass not in steel as shown.

The fan in our furnace that pushes cold or hot air through the vents stopped working. The repairman wanted almost $800 to replace the motor. Without any research at the time, I declined the service thinking that it couldn't possibly cost that much to replace that motor. After some web research I found a replacement motor on Amazon for around $200. Once I started to make the repair I discovered that the fan was not going to come off the motor shaft. A little more researh and I found this puller. At around $60 it seems expensive but it did the job beautifully. I have since used it on a second fan. If you are looking at this item and wondering if it is worth the money, we were able to purchase this and the fan motor and save almost $500 over what we were quoted from the A/C repair company. I would buy this again knowing what I know now.

I already own the ULTIMATE HUB FAN BLADE BLOWER WHEEL PULLER reviewed elsewhere on Amazon.com. The Packard A89000 shown is identical to the SUPCO FBP100. I bought this SUPCO FBP100 to have another puller available since I have two tool bags that I carry in different vehicles. The differences are clear and the SUPCO FBP100 falls short. The SUPCO FBP100 has threaded holes that are not precisely aligned to the center of the tool. The supplied bolts, both square head and cap screw, are coated steel and have a good bit of roughness to be worked out... I could not insert them fully by hand and had to resort to the supplied Allen wrench just to get them to go through the holes. The main bolt was no better and will require grease or dripless oil to function. The hooks are very heavy, much more than the ones with my other puller, and that may not be a fault by itself. But the holes supplied for the hooks do not allow using 3 hooks in any symmetry that will work with a 3-blade fan. There are only 4 holes and they are clearly for use with 2 or 4 hooks only. The tool relies on a plastic tube for alignment of the motor shaft to the puller shaft. The instructions also recommend using a center punch to indent the motor shaft end to match the pin point on the puller shaft. This is a far cry from the other puller I mentioned, where the motor shaft goes into the recessed neck of the puller in an area that is not threaded -- keeping the shafts aligned with no effort on your part. In fact, I never thought about the alignment issue with the other tool. I expect I'll get good service from the new SUPCO FBP100 tool. But when you have a choice, choose quality over price because there's a big difference.
