All of the recordings I get to hear of my band live have fantastic cymbal sounds. They cut through the music and sound amazing. My secret? RUDE thins. RUDE thins are not thin cymbals, they are more of a medium weight. So, if you use regular crash cymbals and not heavy or "metal" weights you will be fine using these. Do not be afraid of the RUDE designation, the thins are fantastic cymbals for recording and live situations. They are not as multi-dimensional as some cymbals, but for rock, pop, etc. they are hard to beat.
