Replaced the standard plastic jaws which are prone to heat from the soldering iron. The steel jaws are solid and hold the part in place.

I purchased this set of steel jaws after noticing that I had slightly melted the stock plastic jaws on the 303 Standard Head during a Dremel cut-off operation. The head of the machine screw I was cutting got hot, and as it did, it embedded itself in the plastic. I knew right then that I needed to find some steel jaws for the vise. The jaws are a good thickness and machined to correct tolerances as far as attachment is concerned. Meaning, the screw holes line up fine. But there are two problems:First, upon installing the jaws, I noticed that the top surfaces of the jaws are about 1/16" offset from one another. That is, one stands a little higher than the other when the jaws are fully closed. It isn't the end of the world, but it still bothers me a bit. This was not an issue with the stock plastic jaws.Another aspect of these jaws that I do not care for is the lack of grooves or crosshatching for gripping workpieces. The inner surfaces of the jaws are completely smooth. This is fine for gripping something flat and broad, like a piece of sheet metal or a piece of wood, but if you're holding something with a tendency to roll, the jaws do not perform well. If I had a metal mill, I would absolutely etch some grooves into the jaws.Beyond that, the jaws are fine. If you think you need them, get them.

Steel jaws, work fine. Not terribly durable, but good enough to hold parts for grinding or cutting. Not adequate for hammering or bending large objects or heavy metals.Works great for aluminum, copper, brass.

Great when you have something that is going to get hot, or need something that will might need a little hammering on.

Nice item, useful for holding items where extra grip is needed. Same complaint I voiced about the nylon jaws, though. A v-groove running horizontally and similar grooves running vertically near the ends would really improve the grip on round and irregular stock.

Necessary accessory if you want to heat something in the vise, like soldering. Losses a star because this should really be included with the vises themselves!

I guess this review should be on the PanaVise, not these steel jaws, but this is definitely the coolest vise out there. I love my PanaVise. For normal residential use it's just perfect. I mean, if you need to clamp the wheel from a '64 Chevy in your vise, no, this isn't what you want. It's fairly small, and isn't meant for really heavy work. But for the average household workbench it's ideal. It swivels 360 degrees, angles anywhere from horizontal to vertical, it's just perfect. Best of all, the jaws are interchangeable. These steel jaws will hold small to medium size pieces, they also have nylon and PTFE jaws for more delicate work. If you order the jaws with something else (the PanaVise maybe) to get the cost above $25, shipping is free and you can't go wrong. Recommended!
