I bought this as a replacement to a similar one that I lost. The inside of this one is what appears to be plastic and the sound reflects this. It has a weak pitiful sound compared to my old one which was solid aluminum. This one isn't nearly as loud as what I expected it to be. I use it to command a playground of 120 elementary students. They can barely hear it. It is junk. My old one was piercing. I will keep searching but this pack is going back. I do not recommend this for any use.

My problem isn't bears but its my heart. I love hiking and were something to happen to me it will be nice to use this whistle to get help. Too bad I can't play some jazz music while waiting.

These whistles have a plastic insert in both tubes that create the sound. They are not permanently secured with an adhesive and so move easily. These can fall out or lose the whistle due to the location of the plastic making the whistle ineffective. Disappointing. I mean, how expensive is a drop of glue. I will superglue my items, but I am glad I know about this prior to an event where it is really needed

This whistle is great because it’s so small and lightweight it can be added to a key ring without bulking it up too much. For my kids, we put them on lanyards so they can wear around their necks when we go on hikes. They’re very easy to use and decently loud, though not as loud as I’d expected. The little chain connected to the end isn’t super sturdy and the ring can come apart, so I recommend replacing with something stronger so it doesn’t get lost. For the cost, these are definitely worth it, and I’m glad to have them.

I like it! If I had time I'd remove one plug at lower end and give it too tones by adjusting it up a little.I keep them on car keys and sail boat and the wify!!!! Has one now.. worth the whole safety thing.Best deal!

I love the function of the whistle but I lost one because the little chain is very weak. I put mini zip ties through the end hole to secure it to my key chain.
