As stated by others this tool is great if used properly. The internal hardened black steel teeth only need to be tightened snugly onto the stud without overtightening it. Then the external silver housing is used to do the tightening or loosening of the stud.

Worked like a charm on a 6mm stuck and stripped radiator stud for a 2012 mustang. I tried a vice grip, needle nose, regular pliers and another socket kit that wasn't large enough for a 6mm stud (could only do 4mm max). This stud didn't budge with any of those methods, and I didn't want to drill it out because then I wouldn't be able to use it. Thank God for this tool. Not only was I able to remove the stud, but I was also able to reuse it without having to source a replacement. I was able to get the stud installed properly and set the rest of the radiator bolts straight to make the radiator install perfect. Thank you PT Tools and Amazon for carrying such a helpful tool!

This is a 3/8 ratchet drive tool. Used 3/8 to 1/2 adapter for 1/2 breaker bar. I broke the head off a 8 mm bolt holding water pump on 2000 F150 4.2 L water pump. Soaked broken bolt down with superzilla and kroil penetrating oil overnight. Extraction tool grabbed remaining broken bolt with no slippage occurring and removed with ease. Tool had approximately 1/2” of bolt shaft to grab onto. Very happy with results. This tool only works to remove bolts/studs, not to tighten.

Worked very well for me removing rusted bolts out of truck frame. Just take your time and use penetrating oil first. I thought it would break but still in good shape after removing two bolts.

Broke on the first use which reviled that the clamping teeth were not even made of solid metal, but instead something like cast material. Total Junk.

I used this to try and remove a broken driveshaft stud it had a strong enough grip that I sheared the (grade 5) stud off when I tried to turn it. The movement is a little crunchy, but it works and is strong enough. If I was using this daily I would want the movement to feel smoother, but it was plenty good enough for occasional shop use.

I broke the head off a tightly screwed in bolt while attempting to remove it. I tried pliers, vice grips, and pipe wrench but none worked. I saw this tool on Amazon and thought "heck it's worth a shot". I received the tool and attached it to my 1/2 in cordless impact wrench. With a little scepticism I squeezed the trigger to loosen the bolt. I initially thought that the tool was slipping on the bolt and it was only when the impact wrench began spinning freely that I realized that the bolt was out. I was truly amazement how easy it took the bolt out. One of my best purchases!

I’m replacing the exhaust manifolds on a 1998 f150. I was able to get/cut the nuts off. The studs that didn’t come out with the nuts stayed in the head. While tightening down the remover on the third stud one of the tips of the jaws broke off. About 3/16 of an inch broke off. I was able still use the remover to get that stud and the remaining studs out.

Wow this things saved my buttHad 3 super tight studs one of them actually broke and I tried everything to pull it outDrilling it vise grips giant channel locks everything and nothing would make it budge. This stud puller really impressed me my god!It pulled all three out in less than 5 minutes. Effortlessly. Just make sure you use it properly I think most of these bad reviews are from guys not using the tool right.Just tightened it with a ratchet at first than take out the ratchet and put a wrench on the silver piece and loosen your stud. If it does not catch tightened the ratchet a little moreIt’ll get the job done!

This thing is very well made and stupid easy to use. It really grips the stud tightly and works far better than channel lock pliers or two nuts. Its grip is so good that the stud either comes loose or breaks off. Advice; tighten it until if grips well and apply slow steady pressure, don't just jerk the wrench. Slowly increase the pressure is the best way to avoid breaking the stud off. As others have said, it is a large tool about the size of your half-inch drill chuck.

This tool has removed 2 studs in hard to reach places that other extractors could not. I stripped these studs (1993 Mazda RX-7, ~26 years old) and just needed them removed. The Performance Tool Stud Extractor was able to grab hold and eventually remove them. It is a 4 star review, not a 5 star review however because when removing the first stud the tool "broke," or rather I broke it? I must have over tightened and extended the chuck-style gripper too far because it now requires help to open and close correctly. Having said all of this, I was able to remove the second of the 2 studs even after I broke the tool. I see no reason why it won't continue to work, so long as I sort of realign the teeth as I tighten the chuck on the stud.Long story short, even with a small issue that I'm pretty sure I caused, I was able to remove 2 stripped and project blocking studs out with this tool. The tool saved me more money and time than it costs. I would purchase it again.
