This cute little tool looks exactly like a letter opener. The only difference is that it has a cute paw print on it that will help keep your fingers from slipping. This works well, i immediately went over and cut some of the matts behind my dogs ears. The hair cut way easier than scissors and I felt a little more comfortable with this tool because I didn't have sharp edges for the dog to move her head into. Keep in mind, this is still a tool you need to be careful with, but I do feel safer than scissors. This would also work well to cut boxes or open letters, but I wouldn't use it for the dog and other items, because you will eventually dull the blade. This is obviously made in another country because the directions on the box were in another language. I would buy this again.

This is exactly what it looks like: a single-blade mat splitter that feels more like a letter opener with a paw print logo on it — but hey, it works. It comes with a snug little sleeve for the blade (nice touch), and it's surprisingly effective at slicing through mats without pulling or yanking. I’ve got an Aussie who whines whenever she sees someone breaking out a brush. But with this thing, I can slide it in, cut out the mat, and we’re done before she knows what happened. That’s a win in my book.No bells, no whistles — just simple, safe, and makes grooming a little less dramatic.Verdict: Not fancy, but definitely useful.

We have an extremely nervous fat older black kitty with long hair and it's always a challenge to keep her hind end clean. We either have the vet trim her fur and remove tangles (yearly - not often enough) or try with electric clippers and wind up freaking her out. This "Pethroom" branded detangler is nicely made of high quality plastic with a snap on cover for safety. While it resembles a common letter opener the opening of the cutter is almost 1/2" wide to accommodate fur. Once we secured our cat (two person operation) mats were cut right off cleanly. Silent, so the cat doesn't know what you're doing. I only have the concern that the opening for the slicing blade is wide enough to allow a few body parts such as tail or ear to reach the cutting blade. Point outward away from the animal's body, be aware of anything that could fit into the opening. and you should be fine.

It's such a struggle keeping my toy poodle matt free. His fur is so beautiful, but oh, those knots! It doesn't help that he hates being groomed, so I often resort to just cutting out the matts and leaving him with uneven fur or holes where the fur once was. This little gadget was able to break up the stubborn knots behind his ears and under his legs and belly and allowed me to brush through them afterwards. It's plastic, but it's sturdy, lightweight and colorful with a cute paw print on it. It has a long prong that helps you guide the super sharp blade into the matt. It also has a cap that snaps on for storage and protection. It has definitely made my dog's life (and mine) a lot easier. It works so quickly that my dog doesn't even notice. It doesn't cause him any pain or discomfort. Not like the raking tool I'd previously been using on him which really tugs and pulls the fur. Worth every penny. Wish I had found it sooner!

Review of PETHROOM Matt Splitter for Dogs & Cats, Dematting Tool with Steel BladeThis is a useful tool for the intended purpose of cutting knots and matted fur and hair as well as cutting open boxes and things like slicing through wrapping paper. I'd say it might even be better suited for those other purposes. When cutting hair with it, it is sharp enough to cut without difficulty, but you do have to pull the hair taut and use a sawing motion, so there is some pressure or pulling on it. It still works well and I like that I don't have to be as careful with it as I would with most scissors. The paw print on it has a rubbery texture that helps with grip which is a nice touch.

Just a glorified letter opener. Not real sure my Shepherds will get much use out of this. Do be careful, as the blade is very sharp.

There is not much to this product; it is not unlike many generic box/package openers, just a bit larger and with a paw print on it. But having said that, all my cavalier spaniels over the years have gotten tangles and clumped fur around their ears every now and again. This little cutter definitely helps stop the problem early on or can even remove the larger clumps if done carefully. Very convenient item to have for certain dog breeds with longer fur.

This is such a cute, handy tool for getting matts out of pet fur. While I do my best to keep tangles out of my dog's fur through consistent brushing, sometimes matts are unavoidable after going to forests or parks. My Aussie tends to get tangles behind her ears and in her rear-end feathers. If they can't be easily worked or brushed out, this tool helps as an easy way to cut the matts right out. It also helps to cut out burrs, saving both myself and the dog from the painful process of brushing or plucking them out.The silicone grip in the shape of a paw pad is not only cute, but makes holding onto the tool easy while navigating my dog's thick coat. Overall, this product is convenient and easy to keep on hand for quick, painless de-matting.
