It was fine until recent electrical storm. Don’t put any faith in the “surge protector “.

Love these systems. Have bought a couple (only because a horse unplugged it and dragged it around) otherwise they last and work great

It beeps. That is all it does. This also can not be attached to an existing fence, if the fence has any metal on it. I called Petsafe and they could not answer my questions and would not provide a refund.

Allows our dogs to roam free in a 12 acre area. They learned the boundary warnings quickly and they don't even test them.

At a previous house I installed the sportdog system, and it worked very consistently. I bought the petsafe after I moved because it was less expensive. The Petsafe system is very similar and was just as easy to install (you just bury the wire - a bit tedious but not at all difficult). But with Petsafe, the problem came after installation. At first, the signal was present all along the wire worked just fine. But after a couple of weeks, it was very inconsistent -- sometimes it would trigger the collar, sometimes it would not, and the collar would pick up the signal at different places very inconsistently. The collar's failure to trigger by the wire resulted in my dog running out in the street several times. Petsafe's customer service has been decent, but I've spent a lot of time with them testing the system, and they've tried replacing the collar and surge protector, but it just keeps having the same problem. I even replaced my entire boundary wire with heavy duty 14 gauge wire (when petsafe suggested my wiring was bad), but $80 and an entire days work later, and it still has the same issues. This system is cheap junk - pay a bit more and save yourself the frustration.

We just finished installing our fence about 3 weeks ago. We have two dogs (a mini schnauzer and a wire haired pointing griffon) and enclosed about 3 acres. To install the wire we used an edger and pushed the wire in the ground and gently used the blunt end of a wooden spatula to make sure the wire was as far down as possible. It took us a total of maybe 8 hours broken up over 4 days.It only took about 3 days for our 4 year old ornery schnauzer to understand what was up. He does not like to be shocked so this fence works like a charm. It’s taking our Griffin puppy a little longer, she’s honestly learned more by seeing our schnauzer get shocked and seems to stay way far away from our boundary. All in all this system definitely does what it’s meant to do and I highly recommend it!

I used this kit plus extra wire to enclose 5 acres. It took a little work, but it was worth it. I buried some of it, but used pet fence staples to stick it to the ground. After several months of grass growth, it has "melded" with the ground and grass. I can barely find it now. With 2000 feet of wire, I had to make sure it was at the highest power setting. The power source is in an unheated shed. It worked fine even at very low Minnesota temperatures. This was a concern of mine, but it worked just fine. The only con was our big Golden Retriever somehow got the original collar off and chewed the receiver to oblivion. We bought a new receiver ($100) and took measures to reinforce the collar. The collar worked great and now our dog knows where the boundaries are. We don't use the collar all the time. Only when he needs to be reminded.

I have a 1 year old King Charles/Bichon mix that weighs approximately 20 lbs. He was typically pretty good, but as soon as he would see my neighbors outside or their dog he would make a mad dash across the street. Screaming at him to stop was a waste of time as he was absolutely determined pay our friends a visit. I knew eventually he was going to get hit by a car so I decided to invest in an in-ground fence. I can't express enough how happy I am with this product! Installation was a full 8 hour day - and worth every bit of effort. Although the instructions are very straight forward, I will describe how I installed the system. If you are pretty handy you should have no problem with the installation. I live on a corner lot with a sidewalk. Using my lawn edger, I created a "slice" 3-4 inches deep and approximately 8 inches in from the sidewalk. I also used a cut-off saw (masonary blade) and cut a "kerf" between where the driveway and side walk meet making a continuous loop around the property. Finally I made one slice from the edge of the loop straight across the side of my property to where the AC Unit is located. (I brought the wires into the basement using the same hole that was used for the AC Unit) The kit comes with a 500' spool of 20 gauge solid copper wire (with a yellow jacket). I set up the spool of wire near the AC Unit using a wire reel (a broom handle and a little creativity will also work). In several steps, I pulled the wire across the side of the property, made the entire loop, and brought the end of the wire back to the AC Unit. Using a cordless drill, I was able to twist the two wires together (just where they cross the side of the property). This cancels the signal on that part of the circuit so that my dog can safely run across the side of the property without receiving a static correction. Again - This is explained in detail in the instructions. The 500 ft. reel was just enough to go across my property and make the entire loop, cross the property again, and into the basement. (My property is just over a quarter acre). I created a "splice point" in the basement and ran the 2 wires across to the other side using a piece of 16/2 speaker wire I had laying around. (Also twisted together to cancel the signal) Once everything is connected it takes a little "tweaking" to get everything set to where it is effective. The collar is adjustable from 1-5. 1 is tone only. 2 is a very light static correction. I found 3 to be adequate for my dog. I tried it on myself as well - I weigh 200 lbs. - you definitely feel it! The loop is also adjustable from 1 to 10. I found that when set to 6, the collar starts to beep about 6 feet from the loop before issuing a static correction. These settings have been working perfectly. The kit also comes with white flags that I placed around the yard (6 feet in from where the loop is buried) It gives the dog a visual of where the collar will begin to beep and eventually issue a static correction. I was able to train my dog within 3-4 days. Now when he sees the neighbors he just runs up to the flags and lays there. After being shocked a few times, he knows better! I was outside playing with him today and accidentally threw his toy a little too far. He didn't dare try to cross the line. In conclusion, I am very happy with this product and highly recommend it to anyone that needs to keep their dog from running into the street! I give it 5 Stars!
