Simultaneously Plays Music and Charges

The Fidelio Primo docking speaker lets you connect your iPod, iPhone, or iPad to the speaker system so you can enjoy your favorite music with full, clear sound. This speaker also automatically charges your device while docked--even with a case on--so you won't have to worry about running out of battery power.

SoundCurve Design for Clear Audio

SoundCurve gives you the best of both worlds: an elegant, curved design and crystal-clear sound with 50 watts RMS total output power. The clean curve of the speaker's back cover dramatically reduces internal resonance and eliminates vibrations and distortion for sharp, detailed sound quality. Precisely tuned bass pipes provide deep, tight bass reproduction, while acoustic volume matches the speaker's requirements for balanced sound.

Pure Digital Sound Provides Balance

Unlike docking speakers that use analog sound processing technology, the Fidelio Primo features Pure Digital Sound technology. Pure Digital Sound technology uses digital processing at each stage of the circuit for a high signal-to-noise ratio. The result is unsurpassed, evenly balanced sound clarity.

Deep, Thumping Bass

The speaker provides an immersive sound experience. The generous 3.5liter acoustic volume allocated to each woofer is aligned with precisely tuned back-firing pipes to deliver tight bass performance in a compact package.

Stylish Design with Premium Wood Construction

The speaker is built with a mix of metal, fabric, and wood for durability and enhanced sound quality. Wood has natural acoustic properties and produces lifelike audio, making it the material of choice for sound equipment.

Measuring 7 by 20-1/10 by 8-1/10 inches (H x W x D), the speaker has an elegant, streamlined design with a contemporary look. Place it on a desk or bookshelf to enjoy crystal-clear sound throughout your space.

The speaker comes with a remote control that matches the dock's design and makes it easy to control your music from anywhere in the room.

Free DockStudio App Unlocks Additional Features

If you own an iPod Touch or an iPhone, you can unlock even more features for your speaker using the complementary DockStudio app. This exclusive app allows you to navigate your music collection more easily, check your speaker's battery life, and control sound settings. I bought the product on april 6, 2014. When i heard the sound i was pleasantly surprised. The sound was strong and it seemed like i had made a good decision to buy it. Within about 20 days, i heard some noise, popping, crackles that were not loud but enough to concern me. I should have sent it back but i did not. I don't listen to it but about 2 times per week and it didn't happen all the time. I decided it might be the music. The sound was very good at times so i was okay. As time went on, i heard it more but again did nothing which is my fault. I was not systematic in trying to figure it out like i should have been. Again, i only use it twice a week for 2-3 hours. As time proceeded, i noticed it more often and finally in the last month it has been very bad with the snap, crackle and pop! I finally tried the devices on other docking systems and did not hear any abnormal sounds. It was so irritating i called the Philips website for help because the manual i got with the device is so inadequate. The person that i was connected with was nice but she said it was the speakers probably and the warranty was expired so she could not help me. She also said the model was 2011 as if that was supposed to explain its poor function. I have products that i have bought from Samsung and Sony that were 15 years old and work perfectly. I took a chance and i got burned. I would never use a Philips system again. it was not long lasting and it was ultimately a waste of my money. Please do not waste your money on Philips docking system. I wish i had gone with systems that are tried and true. This makes me worry about other Philips products that i have worked with in the past. Avoid this product.

You can pretty much sum up this product from the other reviews: it doesn't look quite as nice as the pictures. For example, the "handle" behind the iphone is plastic inside whereas the photo makes it appear as if it were brushed metal. The wood is not as dark, nor as nice looking as the photos. The wood is more of an oak color than a cherry as the photos would suggest. On the other hand, the sound is pretty fantastic, at least when played through a docked device. Other reviewers mentioned how the aux-in connection doesn't seem to produce the same sound, which is understandable, but it's as if the aux-in uses an entirely different amplifier, or only one amplifier. Basically, it doesn't get as loud from a device connected to the aux-in, and the built-in DAC isn't that great.Overall it's a good, solid speaker, but it's already becoming obsolete with the 30-pin connector, and the aux-input isn't a great alternative for older or non-iphone devices, so I can't highly recommend this product. It's good, it's solid, but a bit disappointing.

Wonderful and clear sound and love that it charges at the same time. The only draw back is that it is heavy and bulky so not easy to move around,Not so portable. Would be great if made lighter.

I was looking for a high-quality iPod dock that would replace my stereo components (receiver, Squeezebox network audio player, speakers, subwoofer). I was ready to accept that the iPod dock would not sound as good as the stereo system, but I wanted to simplify my setup and reduce clutter. I ended up choosing the Philips Fidelio Primo DS9 docking speaker, and I'm very happy with this system. The system is larger and heavier than you'd expect. I had previously owned the similarly shaped, but much smaller and lighter, DS8500. That dock sounded decent (but no better than Logitech's S715i, which is cheaper and has the advantage of being portable), but the DS9 is in a totally different league. The DS9 uses separate woofers and tweeters, rather than the DS8500's full-range drivers. The superior drivers, combined with the larger enclosure, result in far more detailed, cleaner, and less constricted sound than the DS8500 offers, particularly at higher volumes.Well, of course the DS9 SHOULD sound better than the DS8500, it does cost nearly twice as much. But the DS9 also compares well with docks costing about the same or more. (I do not have other docks on hand for A-B comparisons, so these comparisons are based on my recollections of other docks' sound quality.) The DS9 handily beats the Bose docks I've used at fancy hotels, which cost around the same. The DS9 also offers more accurate and balanced sound than the Harman Kardon Go + Play, which has a warmer, more bass-heavy sound that many will like but could be a bit overwhelming for those wanting more neutral sound. The biggest surprise to me was that the DS9 sounds about as good as the B&W Zeppelin Air, which costs twice as much (but has AirPlay, which the Philips does not have). Again, without an A-B comparison it's hard to make a comparison, but the DS9 is definitely in the same league. My recollection is that the Zeppelin Air, at its default settings, had somewhat heavier bass. Before buying the DS9 I also tried out Philips' Fidelio SoundSphere DS9800W, which has AirPlay (and no physical iPod dock), features two entirely separate speaker enclosures, and costs more than twice the price of the DS9. I ended up returning the DS9800W, and to me the sound of the DS9 is better-balanced. The DS9800W sounded very good but had some glare in the upper mid-range to lower treble which made many (good) recordings sound a little fierce or harsh. The DS9 probably won't play as loudly as the DS9800W and they definitely don't have the stereo separation of the DS9800W, but the sound is smooth and balanced throughout the spectrum, with no serious faults. One downside common to most iPod docks is their limited soundstage - unless you're sitting very close, the soundstage and stereo effect are limited by the fact that the left and right speakers are only several inches apart, compared to the several feet of distance you would typically have between speakers. To counter this, Philips made the front of the DS9 curved, so that sound is radiating out a bit toward the left and right sides. This works - the DS9 throws a considerably bigger soundstage than most other iPod docks, comparable to or even better than the Zeppelin Air (which is physically wider). You're still not going to get the same soundstage that you would from good speakers placed several feet apart (or the DS9800W), but the Philips does better than most in this regard. Those looking for bells and whistles will be disappointed. Besides the expected auxiliary jack and remote, the only "feature" of note is the free iOS app, which has a dynamic bass boost feature and various EQ settings. The EQ should be left on flat, but I found, somewhat to my surprise, that the bass boost is actually effective and well-done. The speaker sounds better-balanced with the bass boost on than without, and even the higher setting doesn't exaggerate the bass to the point of overwhelming everything else. The bottom line is that this is among the best-sounding iPod/iPhone/iPad docks available, attractive in design, and at a price that undercuts several systems that do not, in my opinion, sound appreciably better. Highly recommended.
