About this item

  • This medium sized evergreen shrub has bright red with bronze foliage in spring transforming to dark green foliage in fall. Its dense, compact growth habit reaches 8-12 feet tall. Best performs as a hedge, mass planting, screen, and accent plant in the landscape or in a container.
  • This adaptable evergreen shrub needs a regular water schedule to ensure the growth of a mature root system. After the mature root system is established, watering is needed occasionally, except during a drought, watering is needed regularly. Shearing is recommended to maintain desired shape.
  • Red tip photinia shrubs generally do well in sunny conditions and have a good tolerance for drought. They will tolerate some shade, but dense shade makes them susceptible to fungal diseases.
  • Continual pruning of the shoot tips will prompt continued production of the attractive reddish leaves. This does preempt flower production but, again, this is a shrub normally grown for its foliage, and the flowers have an odor that is not pleasant.
  • Red tip photinia is a common choice for hedges, especially where it is possible to provide the constant pruning needed to maintain the shape and promote the ongoing formation of new red leaves. It can be a good choice for hedges and privacy screens in areas where deer are a problem, as these animals tend to leave the shrub alone.

The plants came well packaged and wrapped in a way that they didn't get damaged. The plants themselves were healthy. This is the second time I ordered from this company and they are consistent. It's been a week since I planted the first batch and they are doing well. The rest is up to me.

Arrived in good condition. They have been pruned at the top on the main stem for some reason. Idk what that about. I want them to grow tall. Second picture is after 5 days. I waited 2 days to transplant to small containers and it (turned out watering them in those tiny containers is insufficient, dries out quickly, and the leaves wilted slightly). After transplant one is doing really well, the other 2 are still adjusting but I'm sure will be fine eventually.

I got some of these in the fall in September, and then more in November once I realized the September ones handled the end of Texas heat and no regular irrigation out in a clay based soil country yard. We literally take a hose to them once a week for two days and almost all survived just fine. I also planted some right before a freeze two weeks later, and they’re starting to grow this spring. Waiting for spring to be in full motion as ones that look dead sprout leaves a week later. I got the big pack this time and it had mini pockets of three at a time so risking tearing roots apart, I can get more out of it and think the seller is generous. I appreciate the cardboard stapling as how else can you keep soil and plants in tack during shipment across multiple states? I love these and brag about this seller to anyone looking to plant but also not blow their paycheck at Lowe’s. Also got cedar, juniper, and weeping willow hybrid and all survived.

The set of 10 plants looks good, however 2 of them the steam was broken. Quite disappointing. Should consider better packing

After receiving the product and seeing the packaging & condition it arrived in I went ahead and read some of the 1 star reviews. They are SPOT ON. Substandard packaging (in other words, packaged like you would a pair of jeans), product laid on it's side, dirt from the little cups each bud was in was all emptied out and on the bottom of the carton.Completely dried out and in terrible shape (~90% dead). We'll see if I can help a couple of them out.Would have expected a bit more care on packaging and a MUCH better product for the $$.

I received these very small plants and planted them the same day I received but over 1/2 have died. I planted correctly and watered as instructed but they were to small to make it.

Most of them were alive when they got here. Maybe two died in transport and I lost two more due to not putting them in a larger pot sooner. But, I’m not known for my green thumb. So, if I can get the majority of them to thrive, I am sure anyone can! Over all really happy with these plants.
