Received product with missing endcap...allowing weather to get into the lock mechanism. Packaging looked like this was a previous return....probably for the same reason. Was sold as new.....

The lock only worked for 2 uses ! The "internals" - came apart when I unlocked it ! No pressure or odd handling- but when I went to put the key in-the key area had loos parts - internally-& the tiny spring came out ! I was able to get the lock opened- but I dare bot use it ! I've contacted- Amazon & seller-but nothing- yet. Old "OnGuard lock is long used-but functional-so- that's "in the meantime... 9/26- Actual "product refund still has not been received ! I thought they might send a "replacement -working lock" as I wrote with the return. But nothing yet-still... 10/10-Still no "product refund" received...

This is an impressive lock. Price is much lower than equivalent locks, and you get five keys. I rate it 5 stars despite the worthless insurance, because I already knew that bike lock insurance plans were basically just marketing hype. Here's the scoop: Top-quality locks like this one (or top-quality chains) can be cut only with an angle grinder, and there is no lock that can't be cut that way. Not physically possible. Sure enough, the insurance excludes forcing where "torches, battery operated tools, or any power tools, including hydraulic tools, were used to open or cut the lock." So, you are insured only if the lock is cut by a means in which it is impossible to cut it, and you are not insured if it is cut by a tool that can cut it. Catch-22.But, as I said, I already knew the insurance stuff was bogus, so that didn't enter into my purchasing decision, and the fact is, no thief is going to mess with this lock unless your bike is really, really special and the guy just has to have your bike, and has the equipment (battery-powered angle grinder) and the time. That's the best you can do, and the price of this lock makes it the right choice.

Heavy and sturdy design. Too bad the clamp which actually holds it to a bike is made of cheap, brittle plastic. Mine broke and now I'm not sure how best to lug this thing around during a ride. Even Gorilla Glue couldn't fix the clamp, which basically shattered due to tightening its included screws as designed. If you don't care about the clamp, the actual lock seems tough as hell so it's easy to recommend.

I just got a new bike and wanted to make sure it wasn't stolen...ever. I went with the LS because it was larger than the standard just in case I was in a situation where a longer U-Lock would be necessary. Its a great lock and does its job. Just know it is a large U-Lock and can be bulky. I bought two but can only carry one on my bike due to the frame of my bike. It was really easy to put the bracket on. I just use an armored cable with the one OnGuard LS U-Lock. But overall great lock! Would recommend!

This is a review of the OnGuard Pitbull LS U-lock sold by Amazon. This lock is so much better than lower cost U-locks, it's amazing. The lower cost U-locks use bent sheet metal as the locking mechanism, this U-lock uses bolts. The whole lock has a quality feel to it and is well padded to prevent damaging the finish on your bike. This model is an extra 2" long over the standard size U-lock. The extra inches make it easier to lock a bike to the modern bike racks you find in commercial areas. Also, a standard U-lock won't fit on my bike's frame & front wheel. As others have said, this is a heavy lock. If weight is an issue, look for another lock. My local bike stores don't carry this model, similar Pitbull U-locks sell in the $52+ range, so the current price of $37 w/free shipping is a good deal.Talking to a locksmith at my gym, he said that he's not aware of any method to pick these locks, which is a relief for those of us old enough to remember when the old Kryptonite U-locks could be picked with a ball point pen body.I'll update if I have any problems with the lock.*** Update Mar 2014: I have 2 of these locks now, and one of them doesn't lock properly intermittently, and when I tug on the locking bar to make sure, it pops off. So, double check it really is locked properly! Otherwise, I've had no other problems. Looking at the other bikes in the racks, a thief would just pass on mine, the locks are so impressive.*** Update Apr 2014: After leaving my bike in the sun for an hour, the yellow plastic grip on the "u" portion of the lock started coming off. It's GLUED to the metal. This plastic part just protects the paint on your bike, so it doesn't effect the security of the lock, it's just annoying.*** Update Aug 2015:I've had these locks for just under 2 years. I still have my bike and the locks don't show any signs of tampering. I live in an urban area well known for bike thefts. The locks do look a bit beat up, but that really doesn't matter. No further problems with the locks, I'd buy them again. My local REI just started selling them for $52, fyi.

ordered these for boyfriend so he could start biking with me. He needed a longer lock with enough clearance to secure his clunky bike frame when it's folded. The coating on the lock had begun to strip when we first unboxed it. The lock itself does the job (at least it has, so far).
