This is a direct copy of a Panasonic branded aluminium u-lock, which was made specifically for the Japanese market. In Japan, it's great because bike theft is extremely rare, and most people don't lock their bikes up anyway. The fact this lock has an aluminium shackle means it can be sawn through in no time, and it will not withstand an attack from even a 12 inch pair of bolt cutters. Once you start telling someone it has an aluminium shackle, word will travel that your bike is locked up with nothing but aluminium, therefore making it an inevitable target for theft.I would not use this for any reason, not even a brief stop at a cafe where I can see my bike, and you shouldn't either unless you can afford to replace the bike, or you really don't care about your bike.

I took a risk and bought this lock a few months ago. It seemed decent enough for my purposes. The size wasn't a problem for me, and the shackle looked thick enough. This unfortunately goes to show that I am not a lock expert, as to my horror this exact lock came up on the playlist of a popular lock picker on YouTube by the name of the LockPickingLawyer. He demonstrated how even the most amateur lock picker could get into this lock within a matter of seconds!Oh, and also it turns out that the tag line "America's first alloy lock" deceptive, as this lock isn't American at all. Rather it's just a rebranding of a cheap lock sold by Panasonic in Japan.

At first i thought it would be too small. But i bought it because i love the simple black design with the silicone encasement so that it does not make sound when bouncing on the handlebar etc and it also prevents from scratching the bike.It turns out so far i have been able to lock my bike no problem even though it is small, see attached picture. The fact that it is small also has an advantage since it is a tight fit, it prevents people from knocking down the bike. I will buy a second one, use both on the bike and leave a few nights out in NYC to see if it survives.

This lock has an incredible size and weight to it. I never notice it when its in my belt or bag. I'm sure this thing could be smashed into little bits with the proper thief but if you're just using it for basic quick lockups then you should be solid. I DEFINITELY WOULD NOT USE THIS FOR AN ALL DAY UNSUPERVISED LOCK UP. It's just not that type of lock. For the price, this is a solid find.

Pros - super small. Cons - super small. But seriously, I really am digging this lock. My bike isn't worth a million bucks, but I wanted a good tough lock that would travel easily. It locks perfectly between my seat post and back rack and is practically nonexistent when I'm riding. When I lock up, I haven't found anything I can't get around yet. I can easily get it around my down tube and a bicycle rack. I cannot, however, get it around the tube, rack and wheel. So, I'd probably double them up or grab a cable to go with if that's your concern. Any lock is bustable, but this one looks to me like any other D lock and was recommended to me by someone I trust to be as sturdy as any other good D lock. And for the best part? It's incredibly lightweight. Oh, one more bonus point - it appears to lock both ends of the U, as opposed to having one curved end that slides in and a notch that locks the other end of the U. So I feel like you'd have to angle grind both shafts in order to separate the U from the bar.
