This is a strange but useful item. It is a 55 amp power supply, which can also be used as a 55 amp battery charger. In the battery charger mode, it will start off at 14.6 V to charge your battery, and when it is mostly there, it will drop to 13.6 V to slowly top it off, and then subsequently it will turn into a trickle charger. Or, you can flip a switch and put out a constant voltage up to 55 A. One thing I found confusing was the voltage adjustment. The instructions make it sound like it only works for constant voltage operation, but on mine, it actually adjusted the starting voltage for the battery charger mode. Therefore, I recommend you put this starting voltage on whatever you want to fast charge your battery when you are in battery charging mode. I opened it up and it looked like it was a basic switching power supply design with two FETs to switch the supply. It also looked like it had active power correction and filtering and other safety features. The one thing that annoyed me about it was the fact that it used 2x 40 amp uses to prevent damage from shorting out the output leads instead of internal current limitation. So be careful when you hook it up to your batteries.

This is a very solid power converter. Installation was extremely simple. It is well made made, doesn't overheat, and has the advertised specs. So far, it is performing well.
