An unusual perennial plant. It has a straight trunk with a thickening at the base. The plant grows 20-40" (50-100 cm) tall and has long narrow leaves located around the stem. Easily grown from seeds at a soil temperature of about 20 C (70 F). It grows quickly. Young plants are replanted annually. Prefers bright, sunny places and high air temperatures. The plant should be watered when the soil dries. Water entering the barrel can lead to decay. Used as a potted indoor culture. In summer, trees can be used to decorate a terrace or balcony, but they should be protected from the rain.
Planting instructions: It is advised to soak the seeds before sowing for about 12 hours in warm water. This will soften the seed coat and accelerate the overall germination. For sowing nolina, a peat-sandy substrate is used. Before filling the containers, it is better to disinfect the soil by " steam bath"within half an hour. The seedlings are very sensitive to the moisture of the substrate, and they tolerate short-term drying more easily than stagnant moisture. In containers for germination, it is imperative to provide drainage holes for the outflow of excess irrigation water. Nolina seeds germinate in the light, and the duration of the "day" should be at least 12 hours (optimally 14-16 hours). For illumination, you can use "daylight" devicesn. Sowing seeds of nolina is carried out superficially, followed by "rolling" (pressing down with a flat wooden plank). Seed containers must be covered with a lid made of translucent material. After emergence, the cover must be removed. Germination of nolina seeds lasts for 2 - 3 weeks (the temperature is maintained at 22 - 27 ° C). With the development of 3 true leaves, the seedlings are recommended to be cut into individual containers filled with nutritious soil. Containers for nolina are chosen shallow, since the plant's root system is located in top layer soil. Drainage is required!
