My first thought upon taking this out of the box was, "this won't last more than 2 years in the full sun".I have now tried two other pool auto-filler designs. The first was the standard off-white (some vendors offer black) pvc housing with the large rectangular channel going into the pool. You fill the horizontal box up with stones for weight and set the filling height with the plastic knurled screw poking out the top. This lasted for over 4 years, though the fill pipe attached to the garden hose had to be glued a few times to remedy cracks and leaks. I also had to change the rubber hose washer as expected because these degrade and extrude out of position over time. In general, a decent design but bulky.The second design I used was one of the types with a standard "Trough-O-Matic" (search amazon for these terms to understand) valve attached at the bottom of a bracket that drops to the pool. I once bought one of these watering trough auto-fill float valves separately to make my own pool auto-filler, but then saw that you could buy full assemblies for less effort and $. At the top there is a thick molded black plastic reservoir for water/weight and a stainless steel braided hose similar to that used for a toilet connection running to the valve. This one is bullet-proof, and is still in service. However, I have seen some rusting on the supposedly stainless steel brackets and screws.The device in this listing is a rather thin acrylic or polycarbonate tube with a simple in-line float valve inside.Positives:- The float valve is easy to adjust precisely...easier than all other options I've tried- You can remove the plastic tube relatively quickly to clean out spiders or mineral deposits- It's a simple design, and simple is likely to be more reliableNegatives:- The tube is thin and feels flimsy. I expect that this plastic will yellow and crack over time in direct sun.- The valve assembly inside the tube feels flimsy- The cheaper version of this has no base to secure it at the pool edge, so it is up to you. The included bracket requires screws, and I did not want to drill holes using a masonry bit. I went with a bag of gravel over the hose, but it's ugly.- The water pours out above the pool level and so makes splashing noise. This may be a benefit for you, depending on what you like.Overall this is one of the cheapest auto-filler solutions, but there are more robust ones available on Amazon for a bit more money. I will continue to use this one and see how it holds up.

It's something every one with a pool should consider getting especially with the super hot days in the summer!! Why let your pool have all its water evaporated and not be able to use the water when you want to at a whim!! Extremely easy to install and simple to use any one can do it!! You should definitely get one if you are a pool owner!! So many times I've been that 1 neighbor who turned on pool to refill and left it running, creating that small flow seen in the alley. How wasteful and embarrassing. Once I set this up, water on, fingers crossed, and it worked as promised. Feels sturdy and looking forward to using all summer long.

It was easy to install and works well for our pool. I no longer worry about water levels dropping too low or overflowing. The build quality seems to be solid, and it has been reliable since day one. It has reduced my pool maintenance time.So simple and such a great idea!
