Locks the bed of my 04 Tacoma well. Easy to install once you locate the correct wires near the fuse panel. The actuator is very loud which inspires confidence everyone you lock it.

Used this to replace a failed Dynalok system. Was really impressed with the fit. Perfect in my 2004 Tacoma. I put some white lithium grease on the actuator arm and it's not too loud at all. The nice thing was it had similar plugs to my old unit so plugged right in. About a 15 minute install would be longer if had to run the wires.

Pop & Lock PL8510 Power Tailgate Lock for Toyota TacomaI hated to pay $100.00 for this lock, I thought it was overpriced.(I was wrong) You can buy actuators for $5.00 on amazon.So I decided to design and make one myself, using the picture of pop and lock I saw on line and my 1997 Toyota Tacoma for my blue print.I first mocked it up on cardboard then transferred the pattern to steel. I spent a weekend on the project and I got it real close. It may have worked. The fit was extremely tight and the amazon reviews said the pop & lock design was also very tight too, This had to be spot on. There was no room for any errors. I also had some questions I could not answer without seeing a pop and lock in my hands.If I were going to finish the one I made I would have had to put another 1/2 day in it.I was wasting to much time trying to save $100.00, I scrapped my project and bought a pop and lock power lock.It arrived in 2 days and fit perfectly. it is a complicated design and their fit was spot on.I can appreciate all the trail and errors "pop and lock" must have went through to come up with this design, they did an excellent jobEven if someone had all the correct tools and machinery, to make the cuts and bends, the punches for square holes for the slider rod, it is not worth your time when you can buy this for a $100. It is a deal!!

I think mine is defective, at least I hope so so I can get one that works. The locking mechanism does not stay locked/unlocked after it is actuated, which makes it either leave the tailgate locked after hitting the unlock button, or if I manage to open the tailgate, it slides into the lock position then and blocks the latch from returning, meaning the tailgate cant be closed. Will update with a video shortly. Trying to contact support to get this resolved. Also, the package did not come with the blue wire taps used to connect it to the trucks wiring, I had to go buy a box of them (not a huge deal, I use them for other stuff, but annoying anyway).Follow up: after contacting support, they asked a few questions and then went quiet. I ended up putting tape on the lock bar to make it slide less easily, which hopefully will be a lasting fix.

Just installed this on my 1998 Toyota Tacoma and post install it is working well. Some comments:(1) the instructions leave a lot to be desired. The wiring instructions are very poorly written, it indicates to assemble the handle(2) the instructions also advise assembling the tailgate lock while outside the vehicle, but I had interference between the two after reinstalling both in the tailgate(3) I had to bend the metal plate to align the slide to slide underneath the latch; it took several tries. I noticed the metal plate makes contact with the interior of the tailgate and possibly the screw heads that fasten the solenoid body to it(4) I didn't care for the quick wire taps (instructions called them blue but actually they were red, no biggie). I picked up a side-tap quick connector so I could easily swap leads - it helped as I needed to do this as at first the tailgate lock unlocked while the doors locked and vice versa. I swapped the leads and all worked well.After sorting out the wiring and mounting issues, all is well for now.

This is exactly what have been looking for. I am glad that I have found a product to provide security for my tailgate. It is very easy to install and only took me about 30 minutes. My only complaint is that it is a bit noisy.
