My daughter is a starting college as a first-year engineering student and doesn't have a real grasp of tools, nuts, bolts etc. She has the math conquered and everything in theory and practice but in the hands-on assembly process she is still my understudy. I wish I had a dollar every time I picked up a project and wasn't sure what replacement nut I needed or which crescent wrench to grab. Here in the states, we are all imperial with little knowledge of our better metric counterpart and this tool is the perfect aid for comparison and comparison-based learning. This has helped lay the foundation of ability vs knowledge and this cool tool clipped on her belt just screams that she is ready for work. It's a cool gift and a great tool to have around to answer that tough question, what size tool do you need!

I pulled a random sized nut and measured it. I do not see how this device at all seems to display the correct size along any indicator. Placing it in a wrench I confirmed that it was a 14mm, but all indications from the device point to 17mm or larger.Additionally, the sliding screw in the middle can easily move, so any reading -- if it was accurate -- would have to be done in place. You could unintentionally move the calipers between measuring and pulling it up to read, or perhaps walking back to the shop to grab the proper sized tool.While the finish is fairly good, and it has a handy clip, the basic utility of this checker is zilch to me.

Ok I was skeptical about this and for the right reasons it isn't right about sizes on sae or metric ,save your money.. wasn't super expensive but not worth it

While the side with the flathead screw is easier to guess where it’s pointing, the other side doesn’t have any kind of pointer like these usually have. A line drawn with a paint marker helps, but this is small enough that it’s only estimating sizes anyway. It's too hard to tell whether it's closer to the number on the left or right of the marker. I put it on my wallet keychain anyway because it's more accurate than I'd be if I just guessed, and the clip is nice and can hold a lot of other little keychain tools.

So at first I thought this was wire strippers as I have a pair of Ohiotechs that look exactly like these however there are not but they do work the exact same. These are similar to micrometers but little more simpler. They dont lock so you will need to be on a table or be quick as the sizes are hard to read. Had they been in painted print or etched differently perhaps it would be easier. Overall there nice and they sre pretty close to your thread size
