I've considered getting a string mower for quite a while - mainly for pasture clean-up. So far, I'm rreally liking this PowerSmart Walk Behind String Mower. It only took me 20 minutes to assemble and I only encountered one challenge - which I will explain in the hope that the manufacturer will remedy this issue. So, once I got the mower assembled, I came up one bolt short for the protective shirt. I decided to go ahead and try the mower out and find a suitable bolt later. But when I went to fill the crankcase with oil using the funnel provided, the oil would not flow through the funnel. Yep, you guessed it, the missing bolt was stuck in the funnel. Due to prior planning I'd used the shipping box to protect the floor of my shop from spillage, so no harm done. But a simple thing like providing a separate bag for the bolts would have prevented these problems.Back to the product. Once all the parts were installed and secured, and the oil and fuel added, I used the primer bulb to prime the engine, which then started on the fifth pull, not bad for the first time. The string mower has more than enough power and the 22" cut is just about a perfect, not too much to be bogged down by wet pasture grass/weeds but wide enough to be effective at clearing large areas in a reasonable amount of time. The large wheels makes it easy to maneuver in tall grass and weeds and its weight is manageable by my 71 year old wife (she like it to clean up around her shrubs and flower beds). While it is too early to evaluate how this PowerSmart Walk Behind String Mower will hold up over time, hence the 4 stars, all indications is that it should last a long time. If not, I will update this review. At the time of this review, this product was unavailable and no price was provided. Therefor no relative to competitive products can be given. One lat suggestion, add an outrigger wheel option to the front with adjustable height.

Think: D-R TRIMMER MOWER CLONE.To start off, this piece of equipment was not hard to put together. There is no motor oil included. You will have to purchase some 10w30 motor oil. It takes about 14 ounces so you will have plenty left in your 1qt bottle. I drilled the all plastic wheel hubs to add grease zerks so I could lube the wheel bearings frequently. It does not come with grease fittings. The wheels and the debris flap are not heavy duty. These are the two items that I expect will not hold up very long.It runs good and it cuts ok. The stump-jumper wheel does not skate across the yard very well. I have to push down on the handlebar while I push forward on the mower at the same time. It is more difficult than it sounds to try to keep the cut even. This works better for cutting heavy grass and small vines under elevated objects like a parked utility trailer, portable building, or a fence that does not go all the way to the ground. It is difficult to use this as a string trimmer to cut all the way up to the edge of the house or flower bed border. This is a specialty device that I got to cut around the pond. It works well for thick weeds. It is not practical as a lawn mower or as a weed eater. The reason I deducted 2 stars is because of brand reputation. A simple internet search will show that this company has a poor customer service department. There are multiple complaints filed with the Better Business Bureau. People claim that they experience 40+ minute wait times when they call for warranty service, only to have their call dropped.I am concerned that I will have difficulty sourcing repair parts for this "trimmer mower" when items wear out or break. It is working well now. The mower is too expensive to just be disposable. I do hope that the customer service experience will be better because this is a fairly nice piece of equipment.

Wasn't sure what to expect with this unit but was pleasantly surprised. The unit comes in a small box and you put it together, took around 20 mins (including taking pictures). Once assembled it can be wheeled easily on the large back wheels. Comes with spare strings, assembly tools, and a funnel for adding oil. After adding oil and fuel a few presses on the bulb primer and a couple of pulls on the start cord and it came to life. The safety handle must be held down at all times or the engine stops quickly. Did a quick pass in some weeds and it tore them up nicely. I have many areas I need to clean up and this will make short work of it. Quick update, the strings that come with the unit are weak. When giving this machine thicker things to cut the strings fall apart quickly. The machine itself has a lot of power though and this is not a reflection on the machine at all.

This takes just a few minutes to assemble. A few tips to speed it up 1). Put the lower handle on before the wheels - gives you more room to tighten the bolts with the included wrench. 2). The top handle goes on with the Red bar on top. 3). the open cells near the center of the wheels goes to the inside. put one wheel and spacer on the axle before installing the axle. Last is to install the plastic deflector. Then you can fill the oil and gas. It will take a full pulls to start the 1st time probably but then it will start 1st pull.

This has been one of the best purchases I’ve made on Amazon. The tool is lightweight, which makes it easy to handle, yet it has no trouble cutting through thick grass and tough weeds. The large wheels provide great balance and maneuverability, and assembly was quick and hassle-free. One feature I really appreciate is how easy it is to replace the string—no need to turn off the machine. PowerSmart did a fantastic job with this product. Highly recommended! And will buy it again.
