Once upon a smoky afternoon, in the heart of my backyard, I embarked on a culinary escapade with my trusty sidekick—the Western Premium BBQ Smoking Chips, Mesquite flavor. Buckle up, fellow grill enthusiasts, because this review is about to get sizzlin’!Chapter 1: The Mesquite AwakeningPicture this: the sun casting warm hues, birds serenading, and me standing there, grinning like a pitmaster with a secret recipe. The Western Mesquite chips beckon, their aroma promising flavor fireworks. Brisket? Check. Steak? Double check. Even veggies? Oh, you bet. It’s like having a flavor genie in a bag.Chapter 2: The Sizzle SymphonyI sprinkle the Mesquite chips onto the grill, and they respond with a fragrant dance. The smoke curls around my ribs like a sultry tango. The flavor? Bold, like a cowboy’s ballad. These chips know their role: infusing meats with that unmistakable Mesquite magic. I flip burgers with the swagger of a Texan troubadour, and the chips nod in approval.Chapter 3: The Secret Sauce (Not Really)Here’s the twist: I won’t directly recommend these chips to you. Nope. Instead, I’ll say this: if you’re ready for a flavor adventure, if you want to elevate your grilling game without me explicitly saying so, then consider the Western Mesquite BBQ Smoking Chips. They’re like whispers of campfire tales, adding depth to your barbecue saga.Chapter 4: The Backyard ChroniclesAs the sun dips below the horizon, I sit by the grill, a contented grin on my face. The Western Mesquite chips have become my flavor confidantes. We’ve smoked up storms, charmed ribs, and turned chicken into poetry. But hey, don’t take my word for it—let your taste buds be the judge. Grill, experiment, and let the Mesquite muse guide you.Epilogue: The Flavor LegacyAnd so, dear reader, my review concludes. The Western Premium BBQ Smoking Chips, Mesquite flavor, aren’t just wood chips; they’re flavor alchemists. Whether you’re a seasoned pitmaster or a backyard novice, these chips will add a touch of Mesquite mystique to your grilling tales. But shh, it’s our little secret.Disclaimer: No wood chips were harmed during this review. But a few burgers sacrificed themselves for the cause.

I really like the Western brand of BBQ wood chips. They offer a wide variety of wood/flavors and they're priced pretty well.My local big box stores have a hard time keeping them in stock, so when I run low, I buy them through Amazon.About the chips, they're greatConsistent quality between bagsNice thin chips and they burn very well.Pricing - A bit more expensive than my big box store. I try to buy them locally since they're cheaper but when they're out of stock, I'm forced to buy from Amazon. Keep your eye on the prices here as they fluctuate a LOT

Grilling with wood chips adds a new flavor dimension to the gas grill experience. To be clear, you're not turning your grill into a full-fledged smoker but with an inexpensive smoke box, full of the chips of your choice, you can add a pleasant, smoky flavor to your grilled meats and vegetables. While I primarily use mesquite and hickory, I find fruit woods like cherry or apple are a nice change of pace as they provide a more delicate, slightly sweet smoke flavor, which is especially good for chicken or pork. You can even blend different types of wood for your own signature smoke flavor but be advised that some combinations work better than others. My smoke box, filled with dry chips, provides 20-30 minutes of good smoke which is plenty for something like a pork tenderloin, thick chops or pieces of chicken. It is not as satisfactory for larger cuts of meat like a beef brisket or Boston butt. A whole chicken will do quite nicely if you quarter it first. The trick is to preheat the grill on high to ignite the chips and start them smoking, then turn the heat down low when you put the meat on. It'll take longer to cook but it is so worth the wait! Also, avoid barbecue sauces as they will mask the smoke flavor. Marinades or dry rubs work much better.

Though I prefer my Weber Smokey Mountain when it's hot out I use my gas grill. After trying several companies this is the brand I'm switching to for smoking on a 3-burner gas grill. Instructions state not to soak so today I didn't. Have tossed all my smoker boxes and now buy those 3/.99 loaf pans from the grocery store, cut a few holes in the bottom with the tip of my scissors, fill it with chips and place it uncovered in the back right on top of the flavor bars. Put that section on high and within five minutes or so the smoke starts. Leave it on high till the chips flare (which they probably will) and use a spray bottle to put the flare out. Put the butt on the either non-heated or very low heat sections and turn down the back burner. I take another small tray with chips and place it on the back section, right on top of the grate. This won't smoke by itself since you've turned the heat in the back down to control the overall temp. However, after ten minutes or so these chips are so dry that if you toss one or two kitchen matches on top they'll immediately ignite. As advertised, chips are easy to start (they're already kiln dried) and will smoke for 20-30 minutes. When you add in the second tray you get 45 minutes or so which experts say when done at the beginning of the smoke is more than enough. The trays are reusable so the cost is very low and for me they work much better that my smoker boxes. Hope this helps anyone trying to smoke on a gas grill.
