This is only a replacement head for the vertical head set up. You need the correct poles to use this head. That said, using the vertical head is hard to get used to. A side to side motion is used instead of a back and forward motion, but it is far superior for hard surfaces and can fit in to extremely tight spaces. Even with the vertical carpet head I do not recommend this set up for carpet. It's manageable with short commercial/office carpet, but the original horizontal set up is still better for carpet.
