The only difficulty I had was finding wall studs within the span of my dresser so I ended up securing one strap to a stud and the other with a wall anchor. It seems sturdy enough for my purposes

Works great, just make sure to use a stud finder if your application is through dry wall

We got some of these at Lowe’s a while back for a hutch. Loved them enough that when I went back for more and they didn’t carry them any longer, I searched them out on Amazon. Good price, sturdy, easy to install. I like the Velcro bits- makes it easy to move if needed. (My kids are older so I don’t worry about them pulling the Velcro off on shorter pieces of furniture.)

No longer live in earthquake area, but found these furniture straps to be very effective at holding a tall 7' bookcase in place. We have a baby and toddlers come and visit so it is a real safety issue to have our bookcases secure. The kit comes with everything you need for the actual mount however I recommend having your own power screwdriver and a phillips in order to complete. The kit gives two ways you can secure which is handy. We ended up just cutting off the excess after I used a our own mounting screws and anchor for the wall. For our project we had a 7' bookcase with about 75lbs worth of books on it and now it is firmly anchored into the wall. Why only 4 stars? Asthetically, the straps can look a little unflattering, however our colors (black bookcase and dark green room) masked this, however you can choose to strap behind the bookcase to hide this aspect completely; also the length of the straps almost makes you take the extra step of cutting, however it is always better to have more than less in these type of projects. Recommended.

I have a very tall (7+ft) and wide (6.5ft) mahogany China cabinet. It weights a ton. I recently moved it into my living room because it was so big it over powered the dining room. I realized that, being on the second floor, it shook when people walked by. Nothing major, but it did have me uneasy. I used two of these straps to secure it to the wall and was amazed. No more shaking or wobbling. I could jump up and down in front of it without the least bi movement. I echo other reviewers in cautioning that the straps really need to be attached to a stud, This wasn't a problem given the width of the cabinet. The cabinet may not be exactly centered with the wall studs, but i am confident it is secure.I've also seen what can happen when a child pulls out the drawers of a dresser and tries to climb it. My niece's dresser cam tumbling down on her because she did just that. I wouldn't hesitate to put these on any dressers or tall pieces of furniture in a house with kids.I am ordering another set for a grandfather clock. I don't think i'll be able to enter that with a stud, but it's considerably lighter, so i think I can get away with a sturdy wall anchor.

After moving to a much more seismically active part of California, I decided to grow up and secure our furniture and belongings. I mean I pay for earthquake insurance, so why not make sure we don't die from a bookcase or TV falling on us AND get to keep my stuff! It is always easier to install these before you load up bookshelves, cabinets, hutches, etc., BUT you can very easily install these straps with existing furniture placement. You MUST have a stud finder (cheap magnetic one on here works great) AND I recommend a drill with a good amount of torque to save a lot of effort. (It took me 2 hours to put in a set of straps without a good drill and only 2 minutes with a drill with torque!). Now, you MUST, and I must repeat, YOU MUST place the strap drilled into studs for these to do any good. Seriously. An earthquake will rip these out of sheet-rock so easily, SO do it right and you'll save yourself and your stuff should the big one, or heck even a smaller one, rock and roll. I spent several hundred dollars on these things (they have ones for TVs that I STRONGLY recommend too!). It is truly a lot of work and cost for the peace of mind that you hope you never have to use (like insurance - these are a waste of money until you need them and they save your life and your stuff! HIGHLY RECOMMEND if you live in the 60% of the U.S. that is actually due for an earthquake (NOT just California folks!).

I recently purchased a tall chest for my son's room. It is made if solid wood so it's pretty heavy. Since the drawers had a slight new furniture odor I decided to open them to let them air out. I made the mistake of opening them all at once because the chest fell on me. I was able to catch it with my arms and push it back up. Fortunately, I was left with only a few bruises on my arms. But, I know a small child may not be so lucky if a piece of furniture like this falls on them. I immediately started searching for something to secure the chest to the wall. I was surprised that none of my local stores carried anything for this purpose. I was happy to finally find this product on amazon. I put it up immediately and it seems to be doing the job. The part that attaches to the furniture is adhesive so I think that if I tried to remove it, the wood would likely get damaged. But, I don't ever plan to take it off so that's not an issue. I should mention that we used a stud finder so that we could attach this to studs behind the drywall for added strength. I think this is a great kit to have for securing furniture in kids' rooms. I would recommend it.UPDATE 12/28/12: My son opened all the drawers in his chest which is what caused it to fall on me before I installed the Quakehold. But, this time it didn't fall. It tilted slightly and was caught by the Quakehold. I'm so glad I bought this!
