I didn't get this for the intended use, but rather, got it to clip the lid to the base on a deck storage box. We had a fastener, but we had a recent windstorm that blew it off; the lid lifted and the contents went everywhere. This works perfectly. It fits perfectly and the strap makes it easy to lift when it's not clasped.

I haven’t used these extensively yet, but the steel shackle seems to be great quality and has always easily released when pulling the tab so far. I purchased this more for aesthetic reasons and love the look of the black-on-black, so long as the hardware mechanism still maintains high quality function. The look is on point and the function works perfectly for me.Note that the “leather” pull tab is a thin synthetic (vinyl I believe) just a touch under 1mm thin, doubled over. It doesn’t stretch and seems to do the job just fine, but don’t expect something beefy to grip. I’m extrapolating here, but I’m not sure how easy the thinner pull tab material would be if you are trying to grip through thick cut-proof gloves, for example. For most uses though, these are great.
