This quill set looks gorgeous and makes a great decorative piece or gift. The natural feather has a nice vintage charm, and the included inks offer a good variety of colors. Writing with it takes some patience—nibs can be finicky, and the ink flow isn’t always consistent. It’s fun for occasional calligraphy practice but not the smoothest experience for serious writing. If you want something aesthetically pleasing with light functionality, it’s a good buy, but don’t expect professional-level performance.

It might make a cool decoration but that's about all it's good for. The ink is cheap, the nibs are poorest quality of any pen I've ever purchased, even the cheapest like $8 student artist calligraphy set has better nibs.

This quill pen set looks gorgeous and is presented beautifully. My issue has to do with the quality of the nibs and inks.Though the set provides you with a nice assortment of ink colors, they are not of good quality. That was a disappointment. My other issue has to do with the additional nibs provided. They are quite flimsy and did not live up to my expectations. The little instruction booklet included, did not provide useful information, especially for the beginner. On the surface, this is a beautiful set, and it’s offered at a very fair price point. Unfortunately I feel that the set falls short. Without good quality ink and good quality nibs, your calligraphy will suffer. This will lead to frustration, especially for a beginner. More experienced calligraphers would have to use alternatives to compensate. That defeats the purpose of buying a complete kit.

This Quill Pen and Ink Set is a true treasure - it has a very authentic antique feel, with quality ornate detailing. The primary nib works decently. The other nibs are, to be blunt, trash. Inks vary in quality. This is PERFECT to experience the first-time joy of authentic quill and ink writing (by candlelight especially so!).The set of nibs is where this set falls far short of its potential: they're so very poorly constructed from, what appears to be, a cheap metal alloy that is much too thin & bendy, unfinished and so very scratchy & inconsistent. Quite useless. Aesthetically, in comparison to the pen itself, they're downright boring, bordering on ugly. The selection of ink colors is wonderful, and they're nicely presented in sealed, secure bottles. They definitely vary in terms of quality and consistency! Attempting to use with the nibs provided exacerbates matters. The little ink dish is simply delightful! Beautiful design and nicely sized. Practically, however - there is one tiny gripe.. because of the ridged concave shell shape, unused ink cannot effectively be returned back to the bottle, resulting in unnecessary waste ... BUT if you're careful on how much you pour, then this perhaps becomes a non-issue.In summary, for the current price of $19.99, this Quill Pen set is worth every penny, and then some. This is PERFECT for a period setting, to experience the joy of authentic quill and ink writing, as well as a decorative/conversation piece. I wouldn't recommend it as a gift to anyone well acquainted with calligraphy, but for everyone else - it would make a fabulous gift.

This is a review of the Mancola Quill Pen and Ink Set. It's a real mixed bag.On the plus side, the kit is gorgerous. Even before you open the box, you are so impressed with the way the product is presented. It looks like a box of fancy candy. Upon opening the box, you are immediately impressed (again) with the items: the dip pens, the nice collection of nibs and inks, the seashell pen holder tray. Everything makes you think that you've gotten the gift of the ages.On the negative side, the nibs, while a fine selection, appear to be a bit on the thin side. I am particularly worried that the mere act of attaching or removing a nib from the pen will cause it to break. However, this can probably be avoided by using a light touch. What cannot be avoided are the inks. For lack of a better explanation, they all appear to be watered down. I have had calligraphy sets in the past, and I remember the ink to have far more substance than the ones in this kit.On a separate note, while there are all sorts of things included in this kit, there is one missing item that would be a real game changer. As a "kit for beginners," there is a total absence of any instructions or manual or basic guidelines as to what a beginner needs to do to learn calligraphy. It doesn't need to be a massive, intensive calligraphy training guide, just a way for a beginner to try their skills. Just a thought. My verdict: 3 stars. This kit has most of the ingredients to be terrific; it just comes up short in too many issues.

This product contains two pen point (nibs) holders, 7 nibs total - including calligraphy types, a sand dish (the description calls it a pen holder; it can double for either) & 6 small bottles of colored ink. I've done calligraphy for years & have used standard dip pens; these are heavier & will take some getting used to. The description shows the shell being used as an ink reservoir; I'd avoid that unless you plan to do a lot of writing - otherwise, you run the risk of having the ink dry in the shell, which can waste a lot of product. I mention sand, as early scribes & calligraphers sprinkled sand on their letters after they were finished to help it dry. The set is quite elegant & looks great on my turn of the century desk. My fingers are itching to play with the pens, & I'm hoping for quiet time after the holidays to get my parchment out & ink on my fingers. Very pleased with this!!
