Both AM & FM bands have very good reception. The SW band without a very big/long antenna (38 ft) will be very marginal. Having a removal/replaceable battery (18650) is a nice feature.

While this radio is labelled a “transistor” radio. It’s a DSP radio on a chip. Generally, you take your chances with a radio on a chip because manufacturers will cheap out on the design and the receiver will have overload and poor selectivity. That is not the case with this unit. The dial is pretty accurate and, in conjunction with the fixed extendable mast, can pick up weaker stations. The radio looks big in most of the pictures, but it is small. It comes with a wrist strap, but given the form factor, you’re not gooing to be walking around with it on your wrist. It also features a two brightness level flashlight on one side. I’m not sure why, but it could come in handy in some situations. The radio can get fairly loud. But it’s not a hifi. The sound is adequate for a portable compact radio. There is no headphone jack. The knobs are metal-looking, but as expected in this category, are thin plastic. Only time will tell how durable they areIn addition to FM, the radio can tune shortwave and AM broadcast. In addition it can be used as a bluetooth speaker and can play SD cards and USB drives. Although, with no display, the SD/USB playback is pretty much flying blind. It also has an input-only aux port. The radio is powered by a rechargeable cell or 2 D cell alkaline batteries or by the 5v USB port which also charges the removable rechargeable cell. If you don’t utilize the D-cell capability, you can store a short USB cable and a very compact USB wall plug. There is nothing to indicate when the rechargeable cell is fully charged. The cell provided with the review unit did not charge at all, even plugged into a computer’s USB for days.

Great little utility radio. All the multiple little functions are great. The flashlight and room light are nice addition.. Good to have the ability to Bluetooth & plug-in flash drives while camping or on the back porch. Which where this unit has been mostly used so far. Am FM radio portion has been great for listening to sports on the porch around the fire pit. I haven't had a chance to use the shortwave yet, but that could come in handy in bad weather listening to the NOAA radio broadcasts. It's definitely a handy little piece of kit put together in a nice nostalgic looking box. It comes with a replaceable 18650 lithium ion battery. The radio can also be powered via USB-C plug or two C batteries.

When I was a kid, my great aunt had a radio that looked a lot like this sitting on her bedside table. It was old even then and I don’t think it worked, but it looked cool. This little radio captures all of the style and charm of the old ones like that, but it works exceptionally well.(Note that when you get this radio, there is a small plastic tab on the battery that you have to remove, otherwise the radio will not play and the battery won’t charge. When you take off the battery cover on the back of the radio, you will see this tab on one side of the rechargeable battery. More information on batteries is below.)About 80% the size of a table radio from the 1940s or 1950s, this radio is certain to elicit comments like, “How old is that?” The look is that authentic. If it just looked great sitting on a table it would still be halfway worth having, but the real story here is the reception this radio gets. Very impressive on all three bands - FM, AM and shortwave. On FM I’m able to get stations several other radios I have aren’t even able to get, mainly because this one has excellent selectivity. It’s able to receive a weak, distant signal right between two stronger signals on the dial. And, finding those weak stations is made easier because the tuning knob is nicely weighted, helping you zero in precisely on the station you’re looking for. The tuning dial is even lighted, too. Not only does this make the radio easy to tune in the dark, it adds to the retro look and feel. Nice touch.AM reception is especially surprising because a lot of radios today don’t have good AM performance. But with this I’m able to get every AM station that the few best AM radios I have are able to receive. Similarly, on shortwave I can get clear audio on every shortwave station I’m able to get with a good digital shortwave receiver I also own. Standout performance for a radio some might buy mainly for its appearance. You also get Bluetooth connectivity and the ability to play audio from USB drives or micro SD cards. Both of those features work well.Audio quality is very good for a radio this size. It’s a full-range sound that’s neither boomy nor tinny. Pleasing to listen to for either music or talk. There is a rechargeable 18650 battery in the radio, which you can charge with the USB-C cable that’s included, or you can use two D-size batteries. I like this dual power option because if you wanted to use this as an emergency radio in the event of a power failure, you could use standard batteries if there wasn’t any power to charge the rechargeable one. The 18650 battery is behind the same battery door that you remove to install the D batteries, so it would be easy to replace if it ever stopped holding a charge. Much better than a battery that’s built-in and can’t easily be replaced. (The product description says the rechargeable battery is non-removable. Thankfully, this is incorrect.)An unexpected and useful extra feature is a light on the side of the radio that can be turned on and off separately from the radio with a switch that lets you choose between two brightness levels. So, you might buy this radio for the way it looks, but the great performance you get here is going to keep you using it every day.

This radio is very aesthetically pleasing, with a gret size to it. It can pickup almost every channel I'm able to get on my car radio and sounds pretty good for how small it is. It's heavy in the hand and has very tactile / easy to use controls and buttons. The sound and the power function are in the same knob while the bluetooth and other mode options are in another. Overall, the quality for the price is great and this will be super fun to bring camping or even just around the house.
