But the GV-2 mini optical viewfinder solves this problem. It mounts on the hot shoe almost directly above the lens and offers a framing guide equivalent to 28mm on a 35mm camera. It is even compatible with 1:1 aspect ratio image size photography.

Let's be honest here. There's just no reason for these little hunks of glass to be priced like this. I picked up this, and the GV-1 used at half the price. Then there's the fact that they don't help a whole lot because you get no info in the field; it's just a finder. If you need one, it's better than nothing, but Ricoh needs to get a proper VF in their GR series, just like original film versions have. I use my Fuji X100v and Sony RX100 IV a lot more because they have viewfinders. That all said, Ricoh has not made this cheaply. It's well constructed and the optics are good. A fair price would be more like the GV-1, which I paid $110 for.

The item is good quality, it fits nicely in the hot shoe, is clear, and a no-brainer to use. It is actually making your GR-D experience even better. Forget about the LCD screen now, and stick your eye to the finder. Shoot!Downside is, and it is a huge one, why so expensive? I understand this might not be cheap to manufacture, but so pricey...I have been drawn to the GR-D III after using analog cameras for a long time, then a DSLR, and this little fellow has become my trusted wingman on the streets! It could not have done so without its viewfinder, and I promise your experience will be much better after you got one of these.

I've been using this little Ricoh GV-2 on top of my Ricoh GRDIII for the past 7 months. The brightness of the framing lines and quality & clarity of the glass is superb. I wouldn't want to shoot my GRD any other way. Since I shot mainly with large DSLRs, I prefer to use a viewfinder for framing, rather than relying on the LCD screen. So this little gem has come in handy regardless of the shooting situation. The viewfinder is solidly built, low profile, and it fits snuggly into the hot-shoe.Do yourself a favor and pick one of these up to really enjoy your camera by looking through a viewfinder. There is something about the separation and isolation you get with the camera right up to your eye, rather than using an LCD at arms length!
