My old no brand hardware store flaring tool just wasn't doing its job anymore, so I tried this. Makes excellent double flares for the brake lines on my '46 Mercury. It may seem a little pricey, but it works great for my needs.

You will not make perfect double lap flares for your brake lines the first time you use this tool. It takes practice so don’t expect instant results that you can attach and be leak free. The flare will be off center or misshaped when you first try it. Experiment getting everything lined up straight and you’ll get the hang of it.I even bought a lapping tool so the flare seats properly when screwed into place. This helped a lot.A new brake system will hold a lot of air and takes time to bleed your system. Be patient. Don’t expect instant success. This is a good tool. I used nickel-copper brake line. Easy to work with.

Worked great and felt solid. Bought this, watched a few youtube videos, and installed an end to end propane system on an airstream renovation. Only had one fitting that leaked (guessing due to my technique) during my air pressure test and found it in 5 minutes using Big Blu leak detector after being irritated for two days trying to use soap and water. Highly recommend that stuff too.

As a professional HVAC installer I've probably done 50 copper gas lines per week since I received it without a single bad joint. I also use this for R410A ductless splits. A clutch model would have been nicer to use but this was more cost friendly. Great product otherwise.

I broke my first tool trying to flare some 20 year old copper, it was some cheap store brand. Rigid is a good name but expensive, and even if I never use the tool again it was worth the money to get my project done. Once you master the necessary three handed technique to get this to work you will not be disappointed in the quality of the flare.

I bought this tool hoping it would do a better job than the cheap one I bought at Rona. This one is robust, and more importantly precise. Allowing flaring 3/8 in and 5/8 in tubes well enough for good connections on a r410 tube network for heat pump.

If you do a little research on 45° flaring you will find no problem using this tool. It centers properly and works fantastic, it feels very premium and will last a long time.

High quality. Have used it several times to flare soft copper on mini split AC units. Be certain to center (align) the clamp properly. Failure to do so will make your flare off center. Don't blame the tool for your incorrect use. This is a great tool at a great price

I didn't realize that the tool came defective until several wks later when I began to use it. Their quality control must b nonexistent. Finally figured out why I was having issues. Good design, sturdy tool if they hadn't screwed up when they manufactured it. They missed putting groves in the 3/16 clamping section, therefore the pipe just slippes instead of flaring. I purchased a cheaper version at ace and combined the two for one good tool. Thanks Ridgid, expected better.

As others wrote here, this is a hobbyist tool. It works, does the flare et all, but you'll need a good file and attention to detail to finish the edges. It doesn't have a guide for depth, how much pipe you leave sticking out to make the flange work. So you'll spend a few inches of pipe learning this part. Once you do the flare, besides the burrs, you also get this eccentric flare. I've tried rotating the tool, the pipe, everything, but the flra still comes eccentric. The good news is that once you torque up the entire connection, it is leak free. The end result is not clean, because it squeezes the pipe on the sides, but is functional. If I were I professional, I wouldn't buy it. Buy something that gives better finish and needs less rework.

I have always shied away from buying the big box store version of this tool because of the inconsistent results they give. Rest assured this is well made and yields excellent, clean flares that seal perfectly every time.UPDATE July 25, 2013 After using this to make a few hundred flares, it has held up well and performed flawlessly. All you have to do is cut the pipe cleanly, squarely, deburr and insert it ever so slightly proud of the block. tighten it down and pop out another perfect flare!
