Love my little drill press. I'd definitely love it to be more powerful, but for the size and price, it does 95% of everything that I would need it for. I've cut with a 2" forstner bit through douglas fir on several occasions and it keeps the bit moving. Runout is minimal. When I opened the box, there was a broken plastic piece, but Rikon sent me a replacement very quickly. All in all, I couldn't be happier!

I was quite impressed with the rugged look of the machine upon opening the box and found it very easy to put together. However when I plugged it in and flipped the on switch the motor sparked and knocked out the GFI. I reset the GFI and tried it several more times with the same result. I was finally able to turn it on without the GFI kicking out but the motor would just hum without turning the spindle. I found that if I gave the spindle or the pulley a spin it would work. I came to the conclusion that the start capacitor was out. Called Rikon and received EXCELLENT service/help. I told Rod at Rikon my problem and Rod determined that yes it was most likely the start capacitor. He told me that Rikon would gladly replace the machine. I said I just wanted a new capacitor and I would replace it myself rather than have to repack everything and send it all back. Instead Rod/Rikon sent me a complete new motor. Its great to know that some companies out there are willing to do what is needed to make a customer happy. For me this was the easiet and best solution, other folks would probably have wanted to send everything back. Its good to know I had a choice.

June 5th 2015 I was in the middle of drilling on something at 620rmp (lowest belt speed), not but 20 seconds into drilling the dill bit stoped spinning but the motor kept running, obviously I immediately turned it off then lifted the hood to check what's going on. well the the belt GEARS are made of plastic!.... and one of the sections just snapped off!. I am devastated... a drill press is a necessity to my lifestyle. now idk what to do....... I want to return it and get my money back!..

Great drill press. Excellent chuck. Highly recommended for any DIYer. A piece of advise: if you are planning to buy a drill press vise, the 4" vises don't fit the slots on the press table. The manual to the press lists a 4" Rikon vise as a compatible product, but I could not find it and ended up getting a 4" vise from another manufacturer. It did not fit and had to be returned. I bought a 3" Rikon vise at Menards.com and it fit perfectly.

After a great experience with Rikon's 10" band saw, I expected the same quality in this drill press. It makes an "out of balance" noise as it runs which I find quite irritating. The chuck itself seems to be well balanced and runs smoothly so it will work for me. The thin tin cover uses a friction latch and that needed to be bent to even work at all. The friction latch is also very thin and bends easily so to keep it from rattling, it will likely need adjusting regularly until it breaks. Too bad Rikon couldn't have put a better latch on it. Installing the chuck requires hammering it on, as it is a press fit. Installing the lever handle also required a hammer and a precise alignment of a keyway. This drill press will not be easily taken apart again!

For the size, this press is great. Plenty of power, multiple speeds and portability makes this drill press a best buy.

I love this press! I was at first skeptical because it only has 1/3 hp. motor, however the 5 yr. warranty convinced me. I bought it primarily to drill knife handles. It easily drills through 1" very hard wood. ( persimmon) It was easy to set up, light enough to move around if I need to. It is the perfect size for all my needs.
