I usually wear a medium shirt because I have a thin build, and I just expect the sleeves to be a little short. I bought a medium in this rash guard, but I found that not only were the sleeves 4 inches too short for my arms, but it was so tight in my chest that you could see my chest hairs in the texture! Maybe if you're a ripped gym-dweller, you'd want it that tight, but I'm getting a little saggy as I age and it was not a pretty sight! Buy at least 1 size up from your usual. Also, note that the white fabric is very easily stained by sunscreen, so the neck and cuffs on mine are now yellow after 1 weekend. Other than that, it kept me cool and covered in the 100+ degree sunny weather at the river.
