This modular tool rest system enables the turner to build up a collection of tool rests without going to great expense. The round design provides the smoothest surface possible for gliding your tools across your project, Stems are available in ½", ⅝", ¾", ⅞", 1", 25mm, 28mm and 30mm diameters to fit most popular lathes. Six different rests are available: 4", 6" and 9"as well as a 9" curved internal and external and a box platform which can be used in conjunction with just one stem. Cross bars are specially hardened to avoid those troublesome nicks and to give a smooth finish.

1st off I love this rest and have been wanting a round stock rest for a while. So I bought this rest system for the ability to use collar clamps as stops on it. So it says this cross bar is 3/4”, it is not. I bought 3/4” collars and they didn’t fit not even close! Actually it’s 20mm on the nose, so I bought 20mm collars and they fit great. This is the reason I gave it 4 stars. And I wish they tell you what the thread size is for this modular system but it doesn’t, not here in the description and not on anything I received with the two packages I got for the post (1”) or this 6” long supposed to be 3/4” dia. Cross bar. I want the axminster tool post mounting plate but I don’t know if the threads will match.?.

Perfect size when 4” is too short and 10” is too long for turning projects. Sorby modular is a great buy!

This is a heavy duty tool rest, I didn't find it to be as smooth as indicated. When moving my tool along I found the tool would not move along without resistence as I had hoped. I already owned a tool rest that was as good or better than this tool rest.

This is a pretty good tool rest for the money. I replaced my older cast iron rest with this and the difference is night and day. The hardness of this rest is just right. Holds up to a decent amount of chatter without dinging the metal and yet I do not fear that if I drop it on the cement floor it is going to explode. I plan to add the other versions to my collection soon. This locks into the Sorby post very securely which was something I was worried about but once it is tight it is locked in there.

The turning tools are easy to use on this tool bar. The good finish allows the tool to freely move.
