This set of lathe tools are excellent for my wood lathe. They are extremely sharp, interchangeable and the handle is well manufactured. For years I always bought low priced (cheap) tools because I could not afford quality. Now I am older (77) and what a difference a quality tool has on my projects. I wish I could have had this tool years ago. If you want quality bite the bullet and pay the price, you will win at the end and the tool will last a long time.

Set arrived on time . Have yet to try, if they work as well as they look I am expecting great things . The quality is absolutely superb very well engineered. Well worth paying that little bit extra.

I’m a traditionalist in my tool use. My bowl gouges at 40/40 are sanding free cutting joy. I wanted to try carbide cutting by I also liked the thought of loading the head I want. It’s beautifully made, and extremely high quality. I’ve come to expect this from Sorby. I’ve seen other systems that swap out heads faster, but I don’t cut for a living. I just play. It’s a beautiful system that has many features that makes it my “pinch hitter” for many tasks.

Takes a little getting use to having the tool rest further from your work. the flat bottom on the chisel shaft really helps keep the cutter flat with your project. Nicely weighted handle gives good control of the tool. Another great Robert Sorby tool aded to my collection.

Toss out all you know about using traditional skews, and gouges. Having the tool rest so far from your turnings is hard to get used to. I still cannot get the hang of using them. My turnings get HUGE catches and tear outs in them. These were a disappointment.
