String , we’ll built tool. Handle needs tightening after each hole. Good in soft ground but found myself having to step in too frequently with metal bar to break up soil once below 20cm or so. Requires some brute force at times and even a small stone or root can stop it in its tracks or it will start to veer of course. Maybe with soft, peaty soil it would work a treat, but not a game changer which was a shame as I had high expectations. Par at the end and no hole in one.

When I ordered this post hole auger I was not sure it would do what I needed to do as the ground had stones etc in it. But I couldn’t have done the hole without it, I did lift it in & out to keep it clear as I went 750mm deep for my post. First class tool

seems sturdy and would work for intended purpose. not sure if the screws/bolts would be strong enough to hold up under pressure from twisting. might need to look into machine steel screws or something from hardware store, and possibly washers of some sort, as other reviewers state the butterfly nut might loosen with use. i don’t know as i haven’t used it. mostly i’m putting this review up because the amazing amazon support lady helped me sort out my issue with this auger. though she didn’t require me to show proof i still felt i needed to send pics somewhere, so i post here. the box arrived mostly opened and with a good sized hole in it at the end where i later found out was the pointy end of auger. i was worried and took pictures. then opened and it appeared everything was inside, but not sure. had the auger, the handle, handle screws, butterfly nuts, and top plate to attach handle and little square sort of informational paper. my biggest worry as seen in a couple pictures was a hole maybe about the size of a bb like used in bb gun, at the bottom by the tip in the hollow part of the tubed steel on one side. my guess is it was defective as moist/wet dirt or water could get in and cause rusting, rotting, etc. i rated 5 stars as it seems it would be a great tool possibly but again i’m not sure as i haven’t used it (since defective) due to the hole in tubing near the point that goes in the ground.

Crazy these seem not to be found in the US. It works amazingly! Only drawback is if you are making post holes in clay dirt (which a couple of the holes we had to dig were), have to scrape the clay off, but other than that it was much easier than the common 'big tweezer' post hole digger. So glad we found out about it!

A great tool, laughed at by my whole family until they saw how it worked! Absolutely brilliant, am using for concrete fence posts. The bolts tend to come loose holding the handle, but they just need spring washers. It cuts through roots and keeps going down! Going to a depth of about 2ft. The blade is not hardened so can be kept sharp with a file, overall a great time saving tool. When the fence is finished I'll use it for trees!

This auger has a diameter of 6 inches and did a great job digging a post hole. I have a large fenced yard and keep this tool handy for repairs and digging that does not involve a lot of post hole digging. For the price, this was a great option for me.

Light weight. With cost, thought would be heavier

A first rate, well-made tool which does exactly what it was designed to do - and does it with ease - cutting through smaller roots, hard clay and stony ground. It really will make my task of hole digging in the Winter to plant bare root roses very much easier. I am delighted to possess such a practical tool. I did a couple of practice holes in what is to be the new rose bed, as soon as I had unpacked and assembled the auger's handles. Big smiles! I am now not dreading the arrival of the roses in late November. A previous reviewer commented on the use of the two butterfly screws on the bolts which secure the cross bar handle - it could, perhaps, be a problem - they may well need tightening while using the auger, but if an attempt was made to tighten them too far there's a risk of stripping the bolt threads requiring new bolts and buttefly screws. However, these butterfly screws do not spoil the tool's effective working.

It is a pretty unique tool. I am using a hand post hole digger due to the fact I am working in a nervous area-I am nervous because the area I am working has a high potential for an unwanted surprise. By doing it by hand I have complete control of the digging very slowly and carefully-this tool makes an arduous task a lot easier and it appears to be a lot more efficient than the clamshell type which I also ownTool is good for 38/39"-frost line where I live is 42" I am sure I can wing it for 3" I believe the clamshell also has similar limitations. At the end of the day it is a good tool and I would buy it again

Excellent auger-type post hole digger that is hard to find. This one is well constructed and has a very well designed handle that is beefy enough to take the torque thats required to use it effectively.

I couldn't find this type of hand auger anywhere, not in the major home improvement stores nor in the smaller hardware stores. But this comes from the UK, (so the shipping is a little steep), it is sturdy and works very well. I'm happy with it and would order it again.
